Free-use images?

If anyone has or knows of locations where to find free-use images, either of this individual or his work on film sets, that would be most appreciated. Cirt (talk) 01:38, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Internet Encyclopedia of Cinematographers = not acceptable source

For future reference, please see this thread at WP:RSN. Thanks, Cirt (talk) 21:25, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Terminator/Bale - Hurlbuts side?

There is a lot of coverage about what Bale said and did. But no information from Hurlbut? What's his POV on this, is there anything to find?--Cyberman TM (talk) 19:10, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Good question! Nothing. No statements. No interviews about it. Cirt (talk) 19:11, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Image placeholder

Please, do not remove the image placeholder, until a suitable free-use image has been obtained for use in the article. Thank you, -- Cirt (talk) 02:48, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Oh hey i know shane

Oh hey i know shane (aka luthor when the principal got mad at him). Cool to see he has a wiki page that's long and stuff. Too bad the article writer has neglected to mention shane's post-salvation work. Christian bale blowing a gasket on him was funny and all but it didnt tank his career ;) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr mark in texas (talkcontribs) 02:20, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Okay, good point, will do some further research and update the article. — Cirt (talk) 13:19, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Actually, I re-checked, and the article does indeed have multiple pieces of work after that period in time. — Cirt (talk) 13:20, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Cinematographer

  1. Cinematographer is the more common term.
  2. There is a wiki article on Cinematographer.
  3. "Director of photography" does not exist as an article. It simply redirects to Cinematographer.
  4. In addition, this is how the article was promoted to WP:GA quality.
  5. Please leave the credits as they were previously as Cinematographer.

Thank you,

Update: Jesse96 (talk · contribs) has refused to engage in discussion here on the talk page, choosing instead to revert, again -- with zero talk page discussion. Please see DIFF 1, DIFF 2, and DIFF 3. This disruption of a WP:GA quality article is inappropriate. — Cirt (talk) 04:04, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
I see that there is a mix of using either term. I assume these are based on the original film credits? Erik II (talk | contrib) (ping me) 13:45, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
I haven't watched all the films but I'd prefer we stick with Cinematographer as the WP:COMMONNAME. — Cirt (talk) 18:59, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
What I mean to ask is why "Filmography" goes back and forth between "Cinematography" and "Director of photography". Jesse may have been trying to make it consistent in a particular way, so it would help to articulate the reason why some films have one label and some films the other. Erik II (talk | contrib) (ping me) 19:10, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
I'm not sure, but I think for consistency we should simply use Cinematographer for all of the entries. — Cirt (talk) 20:00, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
I support doing that. Glad to see it's done. Erik II (talk | contrib) (ping me) 14:11, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
Director of Photography is the credit used for the head of cinematography on professional motion pictures. Shane Hurlbut was credited as the Director of Photography on the films labelled on his filmography.
In general terms Cinematographer and Director of Photography are interchangeable, and I believe the reason why there was such a mess on Shane Hurlbut's filmography section was because the film articles themselves had either Cinematographer or Director of Photography on their infobox. Really, it's irrelevant which one is chosen on Shane's filmography table, but I chose Director of Photography because it's the more professional title, but moreover I thought the filmography table looked messy due to the terms not being consistent.
The difference between both these terms is subtle. A Director of Photography is what is sounds, someone who directs the photography, the Head of Cinematography - i.e. everything within the Mise en scène. So a Director of Photography is a cinematographer by definition, just like a football player is an athlete. But not all athletes are football players, and not all cinematographers are directors of photography. So I chose to change the filmography to Director of Photography because that's what Shane Hurlbut's role was, officially, regardless of what the infobox says on these films. — Jesse96 (talk) 15:29, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
Cinematographer is the more common term in use, and that is what is used in the article. — Cirt (talk) 20:56, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
There were possibly more than one cinematographers working on Shane Hurlbut's films, why would be discredit his role as the head of cinematography - surely we would want to distinguish him as the Director of Photography rather than just any old cameraman? — Jesse96 (talk) 22:06, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
Unfortunately, Jesse96 (talk · contribs) has failed to back up any of his above claims with cited sources of any kind whatsoever. — Cirt (talk) 21:12, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
