Suggested summary[edit]

An American private detective (Edmund Lowe) en route to a job in Scotland with an American insurance investigator (Constance Cummings) finds a body in his hotel in Nice, which disappears and then reappears in their train, which is wrecked by sabotage. Constantly arguing, the pair follow the trail of the murderer to Paris, to London and then to a little town in rural Devon, which turns out to be the headquarters of a spurious charity that is in fact smuggling arms for the Spanish Civil War. The murderer, who wrecked the French train with great loss of life, attempts to kill the pair by another horrific wreck but in the end is tracked down by Scotland Yard.
