This may be politically contentious. This article is placed in the Category:Scouting in Ireland, but Northern Ireland is part of the UK and this association is part of The Scout Association. To be NPOV I think it should go in both Category:Scouting in Ireland and Category:Scouting in the UK, so I will do that. --Bduke 22:39, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Oh yeah, of course... i just didn't get around to adding it to the Category:Scouting in the UK... well i didn't even know that there was a Category! (Narrow minded on my behalf!) But yeah, its in the UK, and on the Island of Ireland, so both! :o) Ablaze 14:16, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Merges of county articles

It has been proposed that Scouting in Antrim, Scouting in Armagh, Scouting in Belfast, Scouting in Londonderry, Scouting in Down, Scouting in Tyrone and Scouting in Fermanagh be merged here. There are notability concerns. This was discussed at Talk:The Scout Association#Scout Association in Northern Ireland. These articles also discuss the presence of Scouting Ireland units in these NI counties. If we follow the proposed guidelines at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scouting#Structural changes, we should merge that material into a new article on Scouting Ireland in Northern Ireland. Please discuss the merge here. I support the merge and would note that if we do not merge them, then there is a clear obligation to address the notabiity and referencing concerns of the separate articles. --Bduke (talk) 02:11, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

The proposed guidelines I mention above do not now have as much support as they did. I am thinking that the material on the Scout Association and on Scouting Ireland in NI are so mixed up that we should perhaps merge everything into Scouting in Northern Ireland (now a redirect to Scouting in the United Kingdom that says nothing about Scouting Ireland in NI). I have merged all seven County articles into The Scout Association in Northern Ireland. In doing so, two separate points struck me with some force. First, just how clear it is that these County articles had very little to say about anything notable. This does not mean there is nothing notable, but it is just not there. I will proceed next to do some searching and see what I can add. Second, it was clear that information about Scouting Ireland is there in more detail than the SA information. I do not think this can sensibly forked off. I will move this article to Scouting in Northern Ireland over the current redirect, but after improving it. Note very clearly please that I have not merged material about individual Groups. This material is not encyclopedic and it should be removed on all UK County/Area articles and elsewhere. We will get there. This is just the start. ScoutWiki is the place for material on Groups. I will tranwiki the old NI County articles there after I have sorted out the WP stuff. --Bduke (talk) 02:12, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes, there is at least one B-PSA(I) Group in Northern Ireland, so I've added a sentence to indicate that there are three Associations serving NI. If I find any notable extra information I'll add it later, but Ireland is a long way from my home patch! DiverScout (talk) 23:02, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

I have just come across "History of Scouting in Northern Ireland" (Paperback) by Margaret Bell (Editor), 160 pages, Publisher: Northern Ireland Scout Council. There has been a discussion at Talk:Scouting in South West England#Not a satisfactory article that could equally apply to this article and all other 11 region articles in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. What evidence do you have, Chris? Ulster is not Northern Ireland. There is no Ulster Scout Council. How do you know that this logo represents the Scout Association throughout Northern Ireland? The red hand of Ulster worries me. It as far not NPOV as you can get in the troubles. --Bduke (Discussion) 11:22, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Naming County Commissioners

I am opposed to naming CCs in articles such as this, as the information is almost always original research and not sourced. IP editors come along, as today, and change a name. We can assume good faith and understand that they know from local knowledge that one CC has resigned and another appointed, but it is original research. We need a source. I have asked for sources. If they are not provided, I will delete the names, as I think has occurred on the region Scouting articles for the UK. There are also "living person" issues, as the names may attract defamatory remarks, which would be unwelcome and inappropriate. --Bduke (Discussion) 00:38, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
