Liliuokalani[edit]

Shouldn't this be be clarified as "deposed Queen Liliʻuokalani"? --Gadget850 ( Ed) 18:27, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to find an answer over at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names and titles), although the exceptions make this more confusing. These types of problems are supposed to be worked out in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Hawaii/Manual_of_Style. I'll have someone else take a look, but my guess is that we just remove the Queen in the title. —Viriditas | Talk 19:45, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't trying to make a long dialog on this. It was just knowing that Hawaii was a republic in the 1890s and Scouting started in 1907, the title of queen seemed out of place. "Former" or "deposed" would certainly work here. --Gadget850 ( Ed) 20:03, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, the question is, does a Polynesian monarch retain their title when their country is annexed? If you take a look at official government documents like Liliuokalani_v._The_United_States, the government refers to her as "former" and "ex-queen", but considering that this is the same government that overthrew her, I'm not sure if she retained her title or not. Like I said, I think it's best to just remove the Queen in the title for now. After all, that's the name we use for the actual article. There is no need to state that she was former or deposed until we find out if Polynesian monarchs retain their titles. Fair use rationale for Image:Aloha--GuamChamorroCouncilround.jpg[edit]

File:Scouting in Guam Chamorro Council.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

I have restored my edits:

I changed the lead from "Scouting in Hawaii has a long history, from the 1900s to the present day, serving thousands of youth in programs that suit the unique environment in which they live." to "Scouting in Hawaii began in the 1900s. It serves thousands of youth in programs that suit the environment in which they live." because there is no need to tell the reader that the period from the 1900s to now is long. That is self-evident. Let's stick to the facts, and leave the interpretation to the reader. See WP:YESPOV: "Prefer nonjudgmental language. A neutral point of view neither sympathizes with nor disparages its subject (or what reliable sources say about the subject), although this must sometimes be balanced against clarity. Present opinions and conflicting findings in a disinterested tone. Do not editorialize."
"suit the unique environment" - all environments are unique.
I fixed capitalization of "unit" per WP:CAPITALS.
I changed the heading "Recent history since statehood (1960-1990)" to "History since statehood" -- 1990 isn't all that recent anymore, and the section has only one tidbit of information in it -something that happened in 1972.
I removed unnecessary boldfacing per WP:BOLDFACE.
I fixed the capitalization of headings per WP:HEAD
I removed "presently", which is a word with disputed usage, or at least is redundant when used with the present tense, which indicates the present condition.
