Status[edit]

I have changed the status from 'Destroyed' to 'SBNO'. Sections of the ride have been destroyed, other elements have been damaged by the fire. A large portion of the ride remains standing, therefore I don't think 'Destroyed' is appropriate. Feel free to discuss if you disagree. PMBO (talk) 23:58, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Having read the SBNO definition, it doesn't really seem to fit. I think 'Partially Destroyed' may be more appropriate? OwainDavies (about)(talk) edited at 16:12, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think this article should be redone when i type in scenic railway it should come up with the australian one it is older and has a world record.

past tense?[edit]

The article describes the scenic railway in the past tense, but given it is only 1/3rd destroyed isn't it premature to write it off? Pgr94 (talk) 10:16, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As above, I think with the ride partially destroyed, the tense is probably past until some evidence is shown of rebuilding. My personal opinion is that as soon as we have cited sources saying 'the ride is being rebuilt', that it should probably stay as is. References[edit]

Statements like "Some of the Margate trains were sold to Battersea fun fair in the 1960s where they were used on the Scenic Railway there (called the 'Big Dipper' at that site). It was one of the ex-Margate trains that was involved in the Battersea Big Dipper disaster of 1972 when 5 children were killed and several injured. It was during the aftermath of this accident that most of the wooden roller coasters in Britain’s amusement parks were removed; as irrespective of the actual standards of safety on the rides public confidence had been dented." Should have references. I know personal knowledge counts for a lot in these little areas but it should still have a source. Where was this originally found? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fractal.scatter (talkcontribs) 00:43, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Closing date[edit]

I'm fairly certain the Scenic Railway ceased operating at least a couple of years before the arson attack, but this article makes it sound as if the arson attack was the reason why it stopped operating? NemesisAT (talk) 19:40, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct. Per source #3 that talks about the delayed opening this year, it does say that the ride last operated in 2005. I've updated the article to reflect that. Thanks for the heads up. --GoneIn60 (talk) 17:40, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The ride operated in 2006, I rode it myself in that year and it is correctly listed here http://rcdb.com/875.htm. There seems to be significant confusion about this on the internet, and my previous edit to this effect was reverted. However I assure you it did operate in 2006 and can send photographs of it operating in 2006 if required. I have updated the article to suit and included the reference. Peet13 (talk) 15:25, 05 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Peet13: Let me just say that I reverted you again before I noticed you posted here on the talk page, so I apologize for that. Unfortunately, your personal experience and photos, while possibly accurate, are not permissible as they would constitute original research. I understand you are using RCDB to back up your claim, but the problem there is that RCDB actually states 2007, not 2006. The KentOnline source contains information directly from park officials, such as Dreamland chief executive Eddie Kemsley, so I'm more willing to side with any claim in that article over RCDB. If you can find another secondary source that agrees with 2006, then it would give your argument more teeth, and I would be more open to the change. --GoneIn60 (talk) 05:23, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@GoneIn60: Dear GoneIn60, please check the RCDB reference again - it states "Former status: Operated from 7/3/1920 to 2006" and the 2007 reference is the date that it became SBNO because it did not open for the 2007 season. Furthermore I have found that the listing entry for the Scenic Railway that I have referenced elsewhere also correctly gives the last operating date for the Scenic Railway to be 2006 under the History section http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1359602. In addition, I do not understand why you have reverted my information about the Grade II* listing again - this is a very important distinction and must be included in the article summary because it is one of the most important things about the ride. It was properly referenced. If you are not familiar with the distinction between Grade II and Grade II* it is explained on the Wikipedia article here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listed_building (92% of listed buildings are grade II and only 5.5% are grade II*). Please could you therefore reinstate my changes as they were? Peet13 (talk) 09:47, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Peet13: I didn't realize that source, which has been in the article the whole time, agreed with the 2006 date. As a result, I went ahead and reinstated 2006 in the article. Thanks for that. As for the Grade II* status, this is mentioned in the body of the article under the history section. --GoneIn60 (talk) 12:04, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

can this be a thing ?[edit]

rather than the generic sub section, it was originally a Melbourne thing, but could also be a () thing or the as yet not done separately, Katoomba Scenic World thing ... Dave Rave (talk) 09:16, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
