Use of sand filters in septic systems[edit]

This article should probably mention that sand filters are increasingly used as a second treatment stage in septic and other decentralized systems. 66.80.65.244 (talk) 20:06, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A bit disappointed that there is no reference to the history of this technology. Where was it first developed? I believe that some of the first slow sand filters in the world were put into service by a town on the River Aire (Yorkshire, England) in the 1830's but can find no reference? #### —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.157.106.74 (talk) 19:22, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
