GA Review[edit]

This is how the article, as of February 15, 2009, compares against the six good article criteria:

1. Well written?: (Pending) Pass
  • Why an asterisk in "*sehwan"?
  • This is awkward: "...the open drinking between..."
  • Does anyone know the correct pronunciation of "Sága" and "Sökkvabekkr"? If so, it would be helpful to include the English IPA renderings (see it used, for example, in Nephi).
2. Factually accurate?: Pass
3. Broad in coverage?: Pass
4. Neutral point of view?: Pass
5. Article stability? Pass
6. Images?: (Pending) Pass
  • Are all three images necessary in this article? WP:IMAGES says that "articles that use more than one image should present a variety of material near relevant text. Three uniformed portraits would be redundant for a biography of a famous general."
  • Per WP:CAP, the captions for the images should probably expanded a little bit. Captions should establish the picture's relevance to the article and provide context for the picture.

Thank you for the review. I'll respond point-by-point:
1. The asterisk signifies that the word it appears before is unattested but reconstructed. Please see Asterisk#Historical_linguistics. About the "open drinking," I think what Lindow means by this is that, in the Grímnismál attestation, Odin and she are just drinking out in the open like it's something normal, and the implication seems to be that if Sága were not Frigg they'd have to hide it. Of course, one could argue that Sökkvabekkr is not necessarily "out in the open" and point out that Odin has had numerous sexual partners outside of Frigg. Anyway, I think I solved the problem by just quoting Lindow directly. As for the IPA, I'll check into it.
6. All three images aren't necessary, but I think they illustrate the respective sections they're in now pretty well, they're artistic depictions of a mythological subject, and we do have enough space for them, after all. In fact, if we found enough illustrations/references to Sága we could make a "modern influence" section in time. Since we don't seem to know the actual titles for the works (if there are any) I've gone with the descriptive route. What is now the bottom image seems to depend on a theory that Sága is a "goddess of history" that mainly existed in the 19th century.
