Untitled[edit]

While Rory Calhoun's star was rising for the studio to whom he was contracted, that studio back-stabbed him. None of the current biography web sites mention the fact that one of the major gossip columnists (Hedda Hopper, or the other one (name forgotten), discovered a famous female star had been involved in an action which, if made to the papers, would ruin her career. The studio worked out a compromise -- it gave up Rory Calhoun's "jail" records in return for silence on the female star. This led to Rory's down turn at that time and he never recovered. He went on doing B and C grade movies and then to TV.

Why does mr.burns refer to him as the man'whos always standing and walking'?Dermo69

It's a joke on Burns because EVERYONE in the world (well almost) stands and walks, and Burns is so self-absorbed he fails to notice he gave a clue that could fit billions of people.

Shouldn't there also be a page for Rory Calhoun the boxer?

Name[edit]

The main summary says his birth surname was McCown, but the side panel says it was Durgin. I don't know the correct answer, but if somebody does, that needs to be reconciled.

How did he get such an unusual name like RORY?>

It's a fine old Irish name - see Rory (given name). -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 21:24, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Expression[edit]

Where did the expression "Standing on their hind legs like a little Rory Calhoun come from and what does it mean? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.213.49.1 (talk) 21:18, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's a Simpsons quote, Mr. Burns in the episode Two Dozen and One Greyhounds. Santa's Little Helper had puppies and they stood on their hind legs and Mr. Burns compared them to Rory Calhoun.209.2.211.33 (talk) 17:55, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sexuality[edit]

Why is there no mention of his affairs with men like Alan Ladd? (2A00:23C4:6393:E500:5D56:3060:AD96:FCFE (talk) 21:56, 18 April 2017 (UTC))[reply]

Simpsons Mention[edit]

In an episode that had nothing whatsoever to do with Calhoun, Mr Burns is reminded of RC by a puppy because the dog is walking on his hind legs, just like that actor who also walks (whose name escapes Burns but Smithers someone deduces that Burns means Rory Calhoun). This is explained in detail here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_Dozen_and_One_Greyhounds#Cultural_references and perhaps this belongs in the RC bio, especially if it resulted in any kind of, for example, an uptick in rental of RC video rentals in 1995. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.37.99.86 (talk) 23:00, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WWII[edit]

Why is there no mention of Rory Calhoun's whereabouts or service during World War II? 2603:8001:8005:5CF8:2994:642D:A8E5:C552 (talk) 03:15, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
