Note re: recent coverage[edit]

Obviously as Deputy Director of WMF I have conflict of interest in editing here, so I've tried to limit myself to indisputable facts. Reports that Roger donated $1M to the Wikimedia Foundation by The Register are completely wrong, and The Register corrected its earlier story. They did not wait for us to verify this, and they based it on a misunderstanding of what the New York Times wrote. The article as it is seems accurate to me. I've removed The Reg link, only because it does not add to anything to what is said in the article. I will also note that it's obviously imbalanced that this biography only notes Roger's recent involvement in WMF and does not say anything about his actual career and work. The purpose of this article is not to describe Roger's Wikimedia involvement -- though it can and should be a part of it to the extent that it can be cited to reliable sources -- but to write a biography about the man.--Eloquence* 17:21, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
