Request for addition of the details of the crimes.[edit]

Robert Sorrells at 75, plead guilty to first-degree murder of 45 year old Arthur DeLong and first-degree attempted murder of 40 year old Edward Sanchez.

The crimes occurred on July 24, 2004 around 5 p.m. when Sorrells walked into the Regency Lounge in the 1600 block of Los Angeles Avenue in Simi Valley. A surveillance video showed him entering the bar, walking behind DeLong, holding the gun to DeLong's back and fatally shooting him at point-blank range. He then turned the gun on Sanchez, who was sitting on a nearby barstool, and shot him in the face. Sorrells then shot both men in the back as they lay on the floor. Witnesses in the bar testified that prior to exiting the bar Sorrells shouted, “Does anybody else want to fuck with the cowboy?”

Sorrells fled the bar in his Volkswagen Minibus but was caught three blocks away from the crime scene by police and was arrested for murder, according to Simi Valley Police Sergeant Joseph May, and booked in the Ventura County Jail. He was held without probation. A detective later testified that five hours after the shooting Sorrells' blood alcohol level was still more than twice the legal limit of .08.
