Revision of the article[edit]

Dear Wikipedia community,

as the online team of the Robert Bosch Stiftung we would like to suggest some changes to the article and put them up for discussion because the current version doesn´t reflect the actual work of the foundation. First of all, we are planning to update our funding structure at the beginning, revise the section “Overview” and provide some details about the organizational structure of the Robert Bosch Stiftung. Then, we want to add a new section, where the areas of our work are described more precisely, and integrate the information of the section "Initiatives" in our areas of work. Finally, we want to shorten the section about the filmprize because the funding of the prize will come to an end this year.

We are looking forward to your comments and ideas how to improve the article!

New draft[edit]

Dear Wikipedians,

I would like to propose a possible draft for the article which takes the realignment of the support areas of the foundation into consideration that were made at the beginning of this year. Therefore, the draft contains the new section "current support areas and topics" which explains the work of the foundation. The new draft also includes the section "overview", where the relationship between the Bosch company and the foundation is outlined, and a short remark about the organizational structure. I have shortened the section about the film prize because the project comes to an end this year. I know that the draft refers a lot to the foundation's website which is not ideal for a Wikipedia article. But as the new support areas of the foundation have been in place only for a few months, there are, as far as I know, no existing independent sources about that strategy change except the website of the Robert Bosch Stiftung. I think it would be in the interest of everyone that the article is as current as possible and I'm looking forward to your feedback and improvements on the draft.

The Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH is one of the major foundations in Europe and Germany associated with a private company. Established in 1964, the charitable foundation aims to advance the philanthropic legacy of entrepreneur and founder Robert Bosch (1861–1942), as set out in his will. It supports projects across three areas: Health, Education, and Global Issues.[1]

Overview

The foundation is the majority shareholder of the Robert Bosch GmbH and receives a proportionate dividend of the company. This dividend is applied to finance the foundation’s charitable work, which it carries out independently of and separately from corporate interests. The foundation does not hold any voting rights in Robert Bosch GmbH.[2]

Board of Trustees and Board of Management

The foundation has three bodies: the Shareholders’ Assembly, the Board of Trustees, and the Board of Management. The Board of Trustees, whose members are also shareholders of the foundation, decides on the foundation’s charitable strategy and how its funds are used. In line with Robert Bosch’s wishes, the Board of Trustees includes members of the Bosch family, entrepreneurs, and public figures. The foundation is led by the Board of Management.[3]

Current support areas and topics

The foundation supports projects and initiatives in the areas of Health, Education, and Global Issues.[1] Since it was established in 1964, its support has systematically evolved in response to current societal challenges and events at both national and international levels.

Health

The foundation’s primary goal in the support area of Health is to improve healthcare in Germany, also in consideration with future needs. Activities include the establishment of small health care centers in Germany.[4] The foundation also supports projects in the areas of “People in the Health Care System” and “A Health Care System for the Future”.[5] Furthermore, it runs the Robert Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart, the Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch Institute for Clinical Pharmacology (IKP)[6], and the Institute for the History of Medicine (IGM).[7]

Education

In the support area of Education, the foundation focuses on “Learning” and “School Development / Development in Pre-school and Daycare”. The aim is to support daycare centers and schools in preparing young people for the world of today and tomorrow.[8] Since 2006, the Robert Bosch Stiftung has awarded the German School Award to institutions that achieve outstanding educational results, serving as role models for school development in Germany.[9] The foundation is also a shareholder in the UWC Robert Bosch College international high school in Freiburg [10] and the German School Academy in Berlin.[11]

Global Issues

With its international activities, the foundation aims to develop solutions to global challenges within and between societies. To this end, it focuses on the topics of Democracy, Immigration Society, Peace, Climate Change, and Migration. As part of a development mission, it also addresses the topic of Inequality. A particular focus is on the correlations between the different topics.[12]

Strategic partnerships & Robert Bosch Academy

The foundation collaborates with think tanks, policymakers, academics, and opinion leaders to develop evidence-based policy recommendations and relevant solutions to societal challenges within its topic areas. Since 2014, the Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin has awarded fellowships, providing a space for experts from all across the globe to share ideas and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration.[13] [14]

International Alumni Center

In 2017, the Robert Bosch Stiftung established its International Alumni Center in Berlin, a competence center for alumni work.[15]

Film prize

The Robert Bosch Stiftung awards prizes for joint film productions between German filmmakers and their partners from the Arab world. Up until 2015, the prize was awarded to filmmakers from Germany and Eastern Europe.[16] The Film Prize is set to be awarded for the last time in 2021.[17] An overview of past winning projects can be found on the Film Prize website.[18]

Thank you for using the request edit process, Magnus (Robert Bosch Stiftung). I'm declining your request, for two reasons: the tone is inappropriate to an encyclopaedia – your text is (unsurprisingly) written entirely from the point of view of the Stiftung, and discusses its aims, its goals and how great it is ("one of the major foundations in Europe"); an enclopaedic article will report what it actually does or has done, and will present its strengths and weaknesses with due or equal weight. It is also sourced almost exclusively to the promotional materials of the thing itself or of its subsidiary entities (I'm including the press-release in Die Stiftung under this heading); there are only two (apparently) independent sources cited, the BBC and the Tagesspiegel. The first of those is already in use in the page, the second might be useable; neither of them gives much information. Wikipedia content is built on what is reported in independent reliable sources, and we care little or nothing what people and organisations choose to say about themselves.
If there are substantial errors or omissions of independently-verifiable fact, please mention them here, with the relevant source(s). There's no need to propose text for the article because that is anyway not going to be used. A good request might read something like this: "The date of foundation is incorrectly given as 1964, it was in fact 1921 – see Helmut K. Anheier, Stefan Toepler (editors) (2009), International Encyclopedia of Civil Society, New York, New York: Springer Science and Business Media, ISBN 9780387939964, page 1325". Thanks for the feedback! Of course, I am accepting the criteria for text proposals in Wikipedia. At the same time, I wonder in that context how the article then can be updated. In its current version, the article represents facts which are not correct anymore, e.g. that the foundation funds projects in natural and social sciences and cultural and international relations. That is a problem and is not helpful for the user who usually expects current and accurate information from a Wikipedia article but then can be disappointed due to outdated facts about the foundation. Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch-Institut[edit]

According to the article "[T]he Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch-Institut für Klinische Pharmakologie (Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch Institute for Clinical Pharmacology), was established by Margarete Fischer-Bosch in 1973." However the entry for Dr Margaret Fischer-Bosch on de.wikipedia says she died on 19 January 1972 and the Institute was set up on the basis of a donation (bequest?) from her. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.158.35.46 (talk) 14:05, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
