Thomas Smith[edit]

Could Smith's father be this Thomas Smith, author of the snappily titled "The Miner’s Guide, being a Description and Illustration of a Chart of Sections of the principal Mines of Coal and Ironstone in the Counties of Stafford, Salop, Warwick, and Durham" (1836, 2nd edition 1846)? The frontispiece lists him as a "mine and land agent" from "Sandy Fields near Sedgley", the "obedient and obliged servant" of James Foster of Stourton Castle. Ten years later he is stated to be a "land agent" at "Horsely Heath, Tipton".Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:57, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
