Richard Jewell[edit]

I remember at the time watching a network news report on this event, and the reporter reported as evidence of Jewell's guilt that there was a store near Jewell's home that sold the kind of nails that were used in the bomb. Wow, I thought, this is evidence for the guy's guilt, that he has access to a hardware store?!? It will be interesting to see if this event, or something like it, makes it into the movie. It doesn't.174.0.48.147 (talk) 01:25, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Portrayal of Kathy Scruggs[edit]

Coworkers, friends, and family have responded to the portrayal of Kathy Scruggs in the movie, which can be found here: https://www.ajc.com/news/local/the-ballad-kathy-scruggs/Ua5vSJBTHzkQfC1Lvs6snK/. It sounds like a worthy addition to the article. TheUnknown285 (talk) 00:31, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The article currently 7:40am 2 Aug 2020 reads "In exchange for sex, Shaw reveals that Jewell is under FBI suspicion." I saw the movie in the theater on first release. I was severely disappointed at the lack of the sex scene between "Shaw" and Scruggs promised by AJC. The version of the movie I saw in the theater:
_ showed her in a cop bar talking with a drunk FBI agent using all her feminine wiles to coax a story out of him over drinks (coworkers and friends have admitted that is what Scruggs did to get stories from cops, including wearing a black leather miniskirt with fishnets);
_ showed her developing doubts about Shaw's story and retracing herself the distance from the Centennial Park to the phone booth where the bomb threat was phoned and realizing Jewell did not have time to be at the Park to discover the bomb and at the phone booth to call in a bomb threat; and,
_ showed her confronting Shaw about it and him dismissing her concerns because his problems over leaking the impossible suspicion were worse.
Consider the source of the claim the movie showed her exchanging sex for a story: Atlanta Journal Constitution with every motive to deflect criticism of how they treated Jewell in op-ed after op-ed by claiming the movie defamed Scruggs. AJC commented on the movie and admitted they had not seen it because they did not want Clint Eastwood to receive any money from them.

Plot section[edit]

IMHO, the plot section is overly long and overly detailed now. --2604:2000:E010:1100:AD94:B235:AD96:1753 (talk) 18:08, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've edited it down. It seemed to miss some of the common themes as well, such as Jewell's deference to authority, until the climactic scene where he asks them if they have any evidence against him.174.0.48.147 (talk) 01:26, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of "based on" information[edit]

Someone deleted "based on" information. Despite a number of clear RS refs. I have restored it of course - that should not happen. --2604:2000:E010:1100:701E:78B4:AA4D:262B (talk) 08:31, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
