Name[edit]

The original name is Arax it should stay that way, it doesn't get much hits because of these names that have been added to the search engine already. Artaxiad 15:17, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"However, this triggered an invasion by the regular Azerbaijani army" - Grandmaster has objected to the use of the word "invasion". However, I think it is the correct word. The regular Azerbaijani troops were coming from outside the region of Nakhchivan, the "Republic of Aras" was not part of Azerbaijan, and the region itself was not recognised as being a part of Azerbaijan - it was only the result of the invasion that made it a de-facto part. I wonder if "an advance into Nakhchivan" might be an alternative. Meowy 15:17, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And the Armenian army somehow did not invade Nakhichevan? Come on. Let's stick to NPOV. --Grandmaster 15:24, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So you are objecting to the word "invasion" when used in reference to Azerbaijan, which technically did invade the region, but are wanting it to be used in reference to Armenia, which did not! The Wardrop decision which would have given the territory to Armenia was based on maintaining a status-quo situation - not creating a new one. Your edit is OR, it implies that there were no Armenian forces and no native Armenian population from Nakhichevan. The regular Azerbaijan army was not from the region and the region was not part of Azerbaijan until that army captured it - so "advanced into" is the correct name. And it is NPOV.
