Leave Saudi Arabia?[edit]

Anybody else out there interested in the history of the Rashidis? ~~I have read that the new King, Abdullah, has a Rashidi mother; does anybody know if this is correct?~~ The writer/social anthropologist Madawi Al Rasheed writes that they had to leave Saudi Arabia after 1975..as her fathers sisters son Prince Faisal bin Musad had assassinated his paternal uncel, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. I am presently reading the book by Madawi Al Rasheed, does anybody else have a knowledge/opinion about it? Huldra 16:50, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This is an old comment, but just to clarify; not all the Al Rashid left in 1975. As for King Abdullah, his mother was from the same tribe as Al Rashid (the tribe of Shammar), but she was not from Al Rashid. -- Slacker 05:13, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ordering[edit]

As the article stands now it is quite messy. I propose that everything that happened between 1836 -1921 will go in the "Amir"-section, under the appropriate amir. Somethings should be cut out completely: Eg: "The House of Saud and the House of Rashid, are the two most powerful houses in central Arabia. In the seventeenth century the alliance between the Saudis and the Wahhabi religious sect made them paramount."............. That text is not "at home" in this article, is it? Added book, saying hello[edit]

I added book to the bibliography -- it's a survey of the various "Western" explorers, has lots of info re the Rashidis and the Saudis, lots of quotes. May be available to readers when primary sources aren't.

I'm not an expert and I don't speak or read Arabic (I hope to correct that). I'm interested in the roots of Wahabbism and I've been reading English sources for the history of Arabia. Name...[edit]

The name should be Rashid and not Rashidi, the prince (Amir) was known as Ibin Rashid, and the family is called Al-Rashid. I corrected the arabic name, but left the english to be consistent with the article name which should be changed. --DelftUser 18:33, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No, Al-Rashid decsend from Arab tribes of Najd. I understand your mistake but the man known to history as Al-Rashid is a Caliph and that is not his name but a kind of surname taken on assuming the reigns, meaning the wise.

==Note: The history of Al Rasheed is so frustrating. there is no enough unbiased information about them. I think the entire history about them is not accurate simply because the AlSaud took over with the aid of Britain, and re wrote the history after. It reminds me with that history of Palestine and how the Zionists re wrote it according to their agenda. we need more accurate information from decent people and more info about the great leader Abdulaziz Bin Met'ab Al-Rasheed who won the battle "Al Sarif", no doubts that he deserves a documentary movie about his glorious life.

British Command[edit]

I think the statement that the Ibn Saud's conquest was at British command is surely wrong. Robert Lacey in The Kingdom describes one of the outcomes of Churchill's 1921 Cairo Conference as "Abdul Aziz was left to his own devices in Nejd" (p.161) but that Percy Cox suggested that his pension (subsidy) be raised to the same level as King Husain's in Mecca. Lacey also notes that Abdul Aziz felt the British were surrounding him with enemies and that the attack on the Rashids was pre-emptive. Padres Hana (talk) 09:52, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
