Question[edit]

I'm a bit unclease as to why their seems to be two entries in the New South Wales Heritage Database: Railway Square road overbridge and Ultimo (Railway Square) Railway Overbridge? --Criticalthinker (talk) 06:41, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Criticalthinker: The Railway Square road overbridge (#1) is listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register (as an item of state significance). The Ultimo (Railway Square) Railway Overbridge (#2) is listed on the New South Wales Heritage Database (as an item that has not yet achieved state significance). They are the same bridge, although, the coverage area of #1 is narrow (from Lee Street to the western side of George Street) and the coverage area of #2 is wider (from Lee Street all the way through to Ultimo [near the ABC/TAFE]). More research needs to be undertaken by the heritage boffins and a heritage plan submitted to the Heritage Council of New South Wales before it recommends to the Minster (who has responsibility for heritage matters) for approval of a wider heritage area. So, at this stage, part of the area is on the NSWSHR and part needs more research. Does that make sense? Rangasyd (talk) 09:06, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I'm confused about what the use is for the New South Wales Heritage Database, then? Maybe it's because of cultural differences I'm not grasping, but why would a state government have both a state heritage register and a state heritage database? For instance, where I'm from, there is a state historic site register and the National Register of Historic Places, which is the federal register. But we don't have competing of overlapping registers within a state. --Criticalthinker (talk) 09:32, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, I just noticed the the history section seems to be copied word-for-word directly from the source material. Someone needs to correct this. It'd be good for it to be pared down, anyway, but more important, the work needs to be original. --Criticalthinker (talk) 09:51, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
