Did the zr2's also come with locking differentials? yeah most. it is an automatic locking diff.
I would like to protest the statement regarding the G20 and G80 rear ends. I know for a fact the the G80 is an automatic locker (approx. 6mph difference fly-weight activated finger that swings up and latches both spider gears together). I have the G80 code, and I've had my rear and appart and it's not a LSD, its a true locker. In fact, the G80 rear end isn't even a rare option among most chevy trucks. I have owned 3 ZR2s myself and they all had G80 lockers, and if you visit zr2usa.com and read through the drivetrain section, you will find that ALL ZR2s got the G80 locker. "RPO stands for Regular Production Option, ZR2 doesn't stand for anything, its just the code that GM assigned to it. It's also the name generally given to these vehicles by their owners. The RPO ZR2 was gradually phased out along with the entire S-Series when the inferior Chevrolet Colorado Z71 and GMC Canyon 4x4 were introduced in 2004."

Not all ZR2's have a G80. When I bought my first ZR2 a '97 the G80 locker was a option that had to be manually added.(which I did).

If you are familiar with ZR2's and frequent the ZR2usa forums we have a GM engineer who has confirmed the statement about what is or is not behind the RPO ZR2 code. As to the statement of the Colorado Z71's being inferior to the S10 ZR2, this is also fact when you look at the areas it is inferior. The ZR2 has better tires, brakes, underbody skid plates, stronger rear axle, and more torque. Those are facts and are indesputable.
The ZR2 is the offroad version of the S10 as the Z71 is the offroad version of the Colorado. Put them side by side and measure the offroad capability and the ZR2 beats it handidly.
