File:Rp Singh.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Rp Singh.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

R. P. SinghRP Singh – RP Singh (without the .) is his common name. Check the sources and external links in the article, they all use RP not R.P. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:59, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - very clearly the WP:COMMONNAME doesn't use spaces or stops - for example, CricInfo profile and article, CricBuzz, ICC article. - so MOS:INITIALS applies which says don't use the stops or spaces in cases such as this. In the same way that MS Dhoni - who is, err, sorta quite famous - does. There is an argument that in cricket in general we should use this style anyway, but certainly with subcontinental players. • Oppose. In India, it is usual to write initials without spaces or full stops. However, Wikipedia's house style is to use them. This is purely a stylistic issue. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:31, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Necrothesp "It's Wikipedia's house style to use them?" I don't think it is, please provide evidence for this assertion. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:45, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • MOS:INITIALS? —  AjaxSmack  00:50, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
        • Quite. I personally, being British (where it's the predominant style), prefer spaces but no full stops for initials. But I accept Wikipedia's way of doing things for consistency's sake. No reason to make an exception for this chap or for Indians in general. In this instance it's not a well-known personal stylisation (as per the rare exceptions allowed under MOS:INITIALS), but merely the way it's commonly done in publications from a particular country. -- Necrothesp (talk) 08:56, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. MS Dhoni looks like the name of a ship called Dhoni. Dreadful stylistic choice. Same goes here: we don't need to adopt lazy styles of other organisations who can't be bothered to type a dot. Celia Homeford (talk) 14:00, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
