Complaint[edit]

Items under History are very biased (i.e. "becoming the leading provider of cancer diagnostic testing services." and "making Quest Diagnostics the undisputed leader in the world of Clinical Diagnostics.") — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sjcandyman (talkcontribs) 21:28, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I realize I'm about a year late to this, but I agree with you. I just went through and removed anything not strictly factual. Of course, that's kind of hard when very few things are actually cited. I'd like to begin working on a new version of the article that expands the History section and turns to bulleted list into prose. I'll message again when that is complete. I believe you're right. The bullet point section is really a potted history and would be better as narrative. However, before deleting all positive statements about the company, their claims should be checked. I believe QD is a leading company in its field, based on turnover & market share, and saying that is not "biased" as the first editor puts it Chrismorey (talk) 21:47, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I just skimmed the Quest Form 10-K and I found their promotional tone very unusual (and maybe inappropriate) for an SEC filing. I don't like phrases like "a leading company in its field." How many companies would not like to be called a leading company in its field? If it really is "leading," I would delete that and explain why it's leading, eg the largest market share, or the largest number of FDA-approved cancer tests, or whatever the real reason is. This kind of language violates our Wikipedia style manual (see WP:PEACOCK) and has to go. I don't understand these guys. They really do have areas of excellence, but they obscure it with PR bullshit. --Nbauman (talk) 03:11, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

COVID-19 testing[edit]

According to this story, Quest is one of the largest labs in the US testing for COVID-19, with 150,000 tests a day. A Harvard study estimated the need at 20 million a day.

Form 10-K[edit]

Here's the Quest Diagnostics Incorporated 2019 Form 10-K (latest one, filed February 2020) from the Securities and Exchange Commission's EDGAR database of corporate filings. It's a fairly comprehensive, candid description of the company and the industry, in 74 pages of small type plus several appendices. I recommend starting with the table of contents.

https://www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/1022079/000102207920000017/dgx1231201910-k.htm

(I might note that unlike most Form 10-Ks, which are written in objective lawyerly language, this one uses a lot more PR buzzwords and platitudes than I'm used to, eg, "providing insights that empower and enable a broad range of customers...")
