Expansion[edit]

Please expand upon the Council's origins and history, its role, responsibilities, and powers. Listing the current Privy Council without discussing its history is like describing Rama IX under King of Thailand with no mention of his predecessors. LordAmeth 12:41, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion about New Year[edit]

"The King during his 15 years on the throne would continue to appoint new members around Thai New Year (or 4 April)."

As the Thai New Year is not celebrated on 4 April (but 13-15 April), I guess this sentence was actually meant to say: "The King during his 15 years on the throne would continue to appoint new members on 4 April of each year, shortly before Thai New Year."? Either that, or he indeed appointed them on New Year - but then the date is wrong. (Maybe a typo, 4 instead of 14?)

As it stands now, the sentence wrongly suggests that Thai New Year is on 4 April.

Presidents before Prem[edit]

Currently the article only states:

The President of the Privy Council of Thailand is the head and chief councillor of the Privy Council.

Main office-holders
Office Name Party Since
President of the Privy Council of Thailand Prem Tinsulanonda Retired Army General 4 September 1998

(As can be verified here.)

Anyone know who were his predecessors?

The Wikipedia article about Prem says:
In 1998, he was appointed the head of the Privy Council of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, thus becoming the successor to Sanya Dharmasakti.

The Thai Wikipedia article about the Privy Council says that Sanya assumed the office of President on 5 December 1975 (see table of council members). He held it until his resignation in 1998 (he died in 2002). It also mentions an earlier president: M.L. Det Sanitwong (since 7 October 1974).

Furthermore, the Thai Wikipedia also has a box for Privy Council Members and Privy Council Presidents, from where I got this information about still earlier presidents:

- เจ้าพระยาศรีธรรมาธิเบศ (จิตร ณ สงขลา) (Jit na Songkhla) 27 พฤษภาคม 2506-8 มิถุนายน 2506, 9 กรกฎาคม 2506-14 กรกฎาคม 2506 (27 May-8 June and 9-14 July 1963), serving temporarily while Privy Council President Prince Thaniniwat took the position of regent when the king was on visit to Vietnam, China, Japan, and the Philippines.
- พระวรวงศ์เธอ พระองค์เจ้าอลงกฎ กรมหมื่นอดิศรอุดมศักดิ์ (Prince Alongkot) 2494-95 (1951-52), apparently also just temporarily
- พระวรวงศ์เธอ พระองค์เจ้าธานีนิวัต กรมหมื่นพิทยลาภพฤฒิยากร (Prince Thaniniwat) 7 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2494 (7 March 1951 - 8 September 1974)
- สมเด็จพระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ พระองค์เจ้ารังสิตประยูรศักดิ์ กรมพระยาชัยนาทนเรนทร (Prince Rangsit Prayurasakdi), prince regent for king Bhumibol from June 16 1946 to 5 May 1950, and chairman of the Supreme Council of State since 1947, then apparently first president of the current Privy Council from its inception in 1949 until his death on 7 March 1951.

Payment, Salary?[edit]

Do the members of council receive any sort of payment or salary for this position? There needs to be some explanation here. NaturalEquality (talk) 07:26, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
