"Good article" nomination[edit]

Overview[edit]

1. Well written?: See below
2. Verifiable?: Pass Pass
3. Broad in coverage?: Pass Pass
4. Neutral point of view?: Pass Pass
5. Stable?: Pass Pass
6. Images?: Pass Pass

Overall a very competent and interesting article. It is well sourced and broad in its coverage. I have no issues with the POV, its stability or the images. I have a few suggestions regarding the prose/grammar that I have flagged below; these would need addressing before the article can be passed.

I fixed very minor, uncontroversial, grammar issues myself. If you disagree with any of the edits, let me know.

Thanks very much for reviewing! Please see my replies below. Ruby 2010/2013 03:45, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well Written[edit]

The majority of the article is 'clear and concise' and I have seen no spelling or grammar issues. There are a few points regarding the prose that I would like to address:

  • "who ascended the Prussian throne as King Wilhelm I in 1861 and as German Emperor in 1870" (2nd paragraph, of 'Birth and family') - the clause seems a little muddled, as if he ascended the Prussian throne as Wilhelm I and the ascended the same throne as German Emperor. I would suggest "who ascended the Prussian throne as King Wilhelm I in 1861 and became German Emperor in 1870".
  • That was a tricky sentence to write. I have updated it per your recommendation. Ruby 2010/2013 03:45, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Queen Victoria urged her daughter to act encouraging rather than reproachful towards Charlotte" (3rd paragraph, of 'Upbringing and education') - This should either be "to act encouragingly rather than reproachfully", or alternatively "to be encouraging rather than reproachful". I'd prefer the first option.
  • Done, updated sentence per first option. Ruby 2010/2013 03:45, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Vicky's same tastes" (3rd paragraph, of 'Upbringing and education') - This doesn't read well. It would make as much sense without the word 'same'; however if you think it is necessary, perhaps a second option would be "the same tastes as Vicky"?
  • I've removed "same" from the sentence. Ruby 2010/2013 03:45, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Trousseau" (Paragraph 3, 'Engagement and marriage) - as per the tag, this needs to be disambiguated. Perhaps a link to the 'Western Culture' section of 'Wedding Dress', or even the 'Dowry' article. What do you think?
  • Thanks for noting this. I didn't think any of those disamb pages really fit, so I've linked trousseau to the Wiktionary definition. Ruby 2010/2013 03:45, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Image ('Relations with Feodora') - the caption to this image could do with indications of the sitters' postions, or at least of Charlotte's position.
  • "In the 1990s, a team led by Röhl inspected Feodora's body, taking samples for testing." (Paragraph 2, Medical Analysis) - What were the results of this testing? Did it prove the theory?
  • Good question. I haven't had a chance to read Röhl's Purple Secret, where he documents his findings. Instead, I've pulled information on his research from secondary sources such as Van der Kiste. The various summaries of Röhl's research have conflicted a little, so I purposely left some information out of the article that would have clarified the genetic testing his team performed. That said, I have (finally!) ordered a copy of Röhl's book and intend to update that section with what I read. It's up to you if you would like to keep this review open or not – the book should arrive next week. I completely understand if you have reservations or concerns about passing this in the meantime; I'd prefer it if you at least left this review open while I wait (since it will be easier to jump back here once I've completed my update). Thanks! Ruby 2010/2013 03:45, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Placing a quick note that I will be adding some content from Purple Secret, either tomorrow or on Thursday. Please leave this review open a few more days. Thanks! Ruby 2010/2013 18:51, 15 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sotakeit, I have finished adding a bit more content about this, and think the article is ready for you to give another check. Let me know if you notice anything else! Ruby 2010/2013 14:36, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
