North American term?
Although the concept is universal, the phrase 'price gouging' seems restricted to the US and Canada. It's certainly not in common use in the UK, though the general meaning would be understood. The article makes no mention of this at present. --Ef80 (talk) 16:08, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

I think it would be helpful to separate this out by countries since that would be the easiest way to make it more helpful for people reading it looking for advice/what it means, and any information you can provide regarding what it it is called in the uK or sources you recommend, it would be greatly appreciated. - There is no direct equivalent of the term in British English and the concept would be phrased differently. For example, "Gas station operators were accused of price gouging" might be rendered as "Petrol station operators were accused of profiteering". 'Price gouging' is widely understood but is considered an Americanism. Oddly enough, the related AE term 'ripoff' has become well established in BE. HTH. --Ef80 (talk) 16:12, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
