Name origin

The page says under name origin that the guy says Pikachu is based on a Pika animal but this is never said in the article cited. Being derived from the Japanese words "Pika" and "Chu" IS in the source listed however. Being based on a pika appears to be speculation by the editor as I have seen no official sources and it's most likely a convenient coincidence, and that part should be removed. 2600:1010:B14D:B39B:35FD:613E:68:6B07 (talk) 17:26, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

No, it is said that it comes from the Japanese onomatopoeias "Pikapika" and "Chuchu". Pikapika is the sound of sparkling (electric sparking), while chuchu is the sound of squeaking. SaigonSuomi (talk) 22:28, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Red/Blue vs Red/Green

know this really isn't a big deal, but at the beginning of the article, it says that Pikachu first appeared in Red/Blue. I know from prior knowledge that Red/Green was released in Japan before Red/Blue, so maybe it should at least mention that it first appeared in the Japanese games. 'Bold text'

Honestly, I agree but I think it should say "Pokemon Red/Green (Japan), Pokemon Red/Blue (NA)." That is because in 1996 Pokemon Red/Green came out in Japan, but when the games came to North America in 1998, Pokemon Green didn't release. It was only Pokemon Red/Blue, which where the original Pokemon games in North America. SaigonSuomi (talk) 22:37, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

(At the first paragraph of Reception' section) There is a sentence "A Pikachu balloon has been featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade since 2001" that has failed verification, replace it with this reliable source here [1] and (add also on reception section) Pikachu was among the eleven Pokémon chosen as Japan's mascots in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.[1] 180.194.138.13 (talk) 13:33, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

Partly done I updated the source, though the information about the Fifa world cup is already in the reception section. Link20XX (talk) 15:18, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

The lead talks about the appearance of Pikachu in film twice, pls remove this sentence on the last paragraph of lead ", live-action animated film Detective Pikachu". Also in the last paragraph of reception section, there's a sentence that has broken grammar "A ASMR video of Pikachu has been, that let people hang out with it for 15 minutes." could you copy edit a bit? thanks. 14.192.215.62 (talk) 09:31, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

Done Hi anon, thank you for suggesting the changes. I have fixed the grammar issues and merged the sentences in the lead section. Are you satisfied with the changes? Justiyaya 11:25, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

HobbyConsolas a reliable spanish source per WP:VG/S

Add on reception section: HobbyConsolas also included Pikachu on their "The 30 best heroes of the last 30 years."[2]

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. The promotion and legacy section is already 1200 words. Do we really need another opinion of another magazine? ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 10:54, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

As my guide on Dante (Devil May Cry). I'm requesting someone to copy paste my work on the article's reception section only at Draft:Pikachu Reception, I improved the reception section and corrected the placement of the merchandise and criticism properly. Also removed the cruft/unsourced statement "As an Electric Pokémon, Pikachu and its evolved form, the stronger Raichu, fared very poorly against Ground-type Pokémon, especially the Ground-Rock Pokémon", it can be seen at Appearance video games subsection. 45.119.84.59 (talk) 11:35, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#0001 16:06, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

Add on critical response section: In 2021, Chris Morgan for Yardbarker described Pikachu as one of "the most memorable characters from old school Nintendo games".[1] and also add "In 2008" on biology section and remove the when template. 121.170.17.151 (talk) 12:21, 20 October 2021 (UTC)

"Portrayed by" and "Voiced by" in infobox

This section is a bit of a mess right now, with lots of uncited voice actors (and even if they were cited, a good number of them almost certainly wouldn't qualify as WP:NOTABLE). The structure is also confusing; it should lead with Ikue Ōtani as the character's primary voice actor, with any others included as subordinate to her. Morgan695 (talk) 08:13, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Definitely agree with your changes. The whole article seems a little bloated with some questionably notable stuff, so thanks for helping put Pikachu on a diet.--Inexperienced Pikachu (talk) 01:16, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
