Mass discrepancy[edit]

Why does the F5 V Ab star have a mass of 3.27 solar? Isn't that exceedingly high for an F-type main sequence star, or, alternatively far too cool for a star of ~3 solar masses? AnyOldBiscuit (talk) 08:14, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Two sources, two different answers. The contradictions are discussed in both the given references. Ab is invisible, it is not resolved and not seen in the spectrum. It is apparently nearly as massive as its primary but considerably fainter. Its presumed absolute magnitude suggests it would be a main sequence star somewhat hotter than the primary, while its mass suggests a cooler giant star that is somehow too faint to be seen.
