Primary topic[edit]

Since this is hard to explain in an edit summary (and not too easy even on a Talk page, really): When a disambiguated term has one meaning that can be determined to be the primary topic, the article for that topic goes at the title of the disambiguated term, and the disambiguation page is at that title appended with "(disambiguation)". For example, for the term "cat", the primary meaning is the animal. So Cat is the article about the animal and the disambiguation page is at Cat (disambiguation). If there is no primary meaning, as in this case with "phenom," the disambiguation page is located at the main title, Phenom.

The introduction to a disambiguation page only contains a link to a primary meaning, when such a primary meaning has been deemed to exist and the article for that primary meaning is located at the title of the disambiguated term. In other words, when the disambiguation page is at the main title (such as Phenom instead of Phenom (disambiguation)), no primary meaning has been determined and there is no link in the introduction to the page.

In other words, the suggested intro "Phenom is a shortened form of phenomenon" would only be acceptable, according to MOS:DP and WP:DAB, if Phenom was a redirect to phenomenon and the disambiguation page was located at Phenom (disambiguation). If any user believes that the latter situation should be enacted, they are free to suggest moving the disambiguation page and redirecting the main title, but those steps should be undertaken with the consensus of the community before the intro to the disambig is changed.
