Penicillium notatum is better known as Penicillium chrysogenum, having only 46,900 google hits instead of the latter's 89,000 google hits. P. chrysogenum is the older name, and according to this website, when penicillin was isolated, they "identified the mold ... as P. notatum. Later it was found that P. notatum was actually the same species as Penicillium chrysogenum, which, being an older name, became the correct name for the species". Should I move this article? --Ratiocinate 01:06, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

Hey I definitely do not think you should remove this article, but I think you should state what has been written here on the actual article. Not only would it clear things up for a lot of people like me, who I must say, was extremely confused due to this mix up, but originally began my search for Penicillin Notatum....-- Lisa

Moved content to P. chrysogenum. Now it needs some improvements! Nemetona 03:23, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
