Trapped[edit]

Snappy, Kerrigan's opinion piece highlights the overblown descriptions of the Tallaght protest, including the trapping exaggeration. The pictures I saw showed people sitting at both ends of the car, with police at the doors. Gob Lofa (talk) 14:27, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

An opinion/colour piece written 9 nine months after the incident by someone who wasn't there. So, not very reliable at all. Also your interpretation of photos in neither relevant or reliable, and they are called Gardai. This incident will soon be before the courts, so let's wait and see what the court ruling is. Snappy (talk) 14:41, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Waiting and seeing didn't seem to be your first reaction to my edit. Have you seen photos of the protest, or are you saying the police wouldn't allow her to leave? Gob Lofa (talk) 16:05, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Why would me seeing photos of the protest be of interest? Is it my opinion of the protest that counts now? Btw, what are police? Snappy (talk) 19:16, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
See police. If the police wouldn't allow her to leave, then the article ought to say this. Gob Lofa (talk) 19:19, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
They are called Gardaí in this country, you uninformed person. They probably feared for her safety. Have you any reliable references? The courts will be the final judge. Snappy (talk) 19:25, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
They're often called a lot worse than that. I don't have references for their fears; it's not really fair of you to ask, as you brought them up. History will be the final judge, Snappy. On sinister and dextral fringes alike. Gob Lofa (talk) 19:33, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What are you blathering about now? Snappy (talk) 18:52, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not like you to be so uninformed. Long story short, 'trapped' is sensationalism we're under no obligation to ape. Gob Lofa (talk) 00:01, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The paper of record is not given to sensationalism. However, I have re-worded the sentence where Murphy allegedly falsely imprisoned the Tánaiste. Snappy (talk) 08:56, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, it is. I'm still not happy with your wording; there's no evidence for anything other than that Burton chose to remain in the car in the hope the protest wouldn't last much longer. The only attempt she made to leave the car was successful. Gob Lofa (talk) 12:48, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What wording would you suggest Gob Lofa?--Donniediamond (talk) 13:05, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'd change "she was unable to leave" to "her car was unable to leave". Gob Lofa (talk) 13:15, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Snappy, what do you see wrong with Gob's suggestion? I'm not sure I agree that she was 'trapped' but there is a fine line between being 'falsely imprisoned' and 'unable to leave'. My view from reading the sources is that her car was 'unable to leave' but she was. Tough one but I am sure we can reach a wording that everyone is happy with. --Donniediamond (talk) 14:07, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The Irish Times says 'trapped'. Paul Murphy and company have been charged with false imprisonment of Joan Burton (not her car). False imprisonment charges do not suggest she able to leave at anytime. I'm sticking to the facts, but Gob Lofa seems to want to put his pov into the article. Snappy (talk) 14:57, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
A false imprisonment conviction wouldn't; I'm not so sure about the charge. I've no problem quoting the IT's sensationalism if you really want, but not putting it in Wikipedia's voice. Far from sticking to the facts, you seem happy to depart from the ones we know for sure in order to mimic this journalist's sensationalism. You still haven't addressed the points I made at 12:48 yesterday. Gob Lofa (talk) 16:54, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Your point from yesterday is speculation on your part. Murphy is before the courts for allegedly falsely imprisoning Burton. All sources say she was trapped/unable to leave the car for over 2 hours. If you think otherwise, then prove it with reliable neutral references. Snappy (talk) 11:22, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not all; you deleted one that didn't chime with your POV. Gob Lofa (talk) 11:49, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Stop edit warring. Stop reverting to your pov version. You have provided no reliable references to support any of your assertions. Kindly do so before editing again. Snappy (talk) 21:11, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Stop edit warring. Stop reverting to your pov version, which has received zero support from other editors. Stop defying consensus and kindly read WP:CONSENSUS before editing again. Gob Lofa (talk) 21:23, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You have NOT provided any reliable references to support your assertions. Stop reverting to your unsupported, unreferneced pov version. Can you provide any references to support you pov? Snappy (talk) 23:57, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Stop trying to push your POV against consensus. Gob Lofa (talk) 00:00, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Please provide reliable references to support your assertions. Snappy (talk) 00:21, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You're ignoring the reference I provided, you edit-terrorist. Stop it. Gob Lofa (talk) 00:23, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Please read WP:CIVIL. The reference you provided was an opinion piece, therefore pov and not reliable. Provide reliable references to backup your claims. Snappy (talk) 00:39, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I dispute that it's not reliable, and it definitely lacks the sensationalism of your unreliable POV reference. Gob Lofa (talk) 00:48, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You earlier said "Kerrigan's opinion piece", so you admit its a pov piece. In fact its an opinion/colour piece written 9 nine months after the incident by someone who wasn't there. The current reference is from the Irish Times, a paper that can never be accused of sensationalism. Please produce a reliable reference. Snappy (talk) 01:00, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've accused it, and I've explained why I did. Gob Lofa (talk) 01:20, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've explained why its unacceptable. Please provide a reliable reference. Snappy (talk) 11:05, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
'Explain' is not a synonym for 'excuse'. Gob Lofa (talk) 13:21, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So what's your excuse for not providing a reliable reference? Snappy (talk) 23:56, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

See previous. Gob Lofa (talk) 22:16, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You still have not provided a reliable reference, so stop edit warring. Btw, User:Donniediamond is a sock puppet of a banned user, so his contibution doesn't count. Snappy (talk) 12:30, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see no evidence of that assertion on Donnie's user page, you have your reference and you can Google the photos yourself. Stop edit-warring. Gob Lofa (talk) 21:22, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I am not a sock puppet for anyone and I really don't appreciate the smear. I did not come to this talk page to cause trouble, I came to try and stop an edit war between you two. --Donniediamond (talk) 08:59, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
VK, You're fooling no-one. Gob Lofa, you googled photos and formed your own personal opinion, which is not a fact. I've added 2 more reliable references, both of which state that Burton was trapped in her car. This makes 3 reliable references, 1 each from RTE, the Irish Independent and The Irish Times. Snappy (talk) 20:04, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
User:Gob Lofa, stop removing reliable references and please stop edit warring. Snappy (talk) 21:31, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
More sensationalism. Stop defying consensus and edit-warring to promote your POV. Gob Lofa (talk) 20:04, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have provided 3 references all stating Burton was trapped in her car. They are from 3 reliable media groups. That is not sensationalism. You have googled some photos and arrived at your own opinion, which you wish to add to the article without any backing of reliable references. Please stop edit-warring to support you POV, and since you have repeatedly failed to produce any reliable references, I suggest you stop editing this page. Snappy (talk) 20:40, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop removing reliable references. This is not constructive editing. Snappy (talk) 12:00, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Added the following wording: ...after Burton's car was blocked, and she was allegedly unable to leave it..... I hope this compromise is agreeable to all. Snappy (talk) 19:46, 18 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Compromise is always agreeable. A bit of work on your timing and we'll be flying. Gob Lofa (talk) 18:43, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

RTE reports he has left the Socialist Party[edit]

Unclear if this also applies to his Solidarity/PBP affiliation. [1]Culloty82 (talk) 14:44, 26 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

RTE article suggests he has left the Sol-PBP group:

[2] Culloty82 (talk) 14:59, 26 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Just to note, the "RISE!" group listed as a third party on SIPO's register from September 2015 was set up, IIRC, to protest water charges, and is not the same group as Murphy's new organisation. Well... either that, or he's really bad at hiding his intentions and/or plans things well in advance. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 09:56, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why do people keep deleting that Paul enjoys to cook Italian food? I know him it’s true. 38.42.120.144 (talk) 23:04, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Did you not read the edit summary? It's clear enough, I would have thought. A) It's unsourced. B) Even if it was sourced, we don't include trivia. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 23:29, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
