Year of birth?[edit]

Was Patrick Moraz born in 1944 or 1948? There are conflicting edits, and conflicting reports in online Yes fandom. Bondegezou 12:10, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand the reference to Moraz being best known as the keyboardist for Yes (to be fair there are many sources that make this very claim). He was with them on one album (Relayer) and obviously toured with Yes, but only between 1974 and 1976... then Tony Kaye rejoined the band. Moraz is actually a very small part of Yes.

The lemma opens with the statement that Patrick Moraz is "best known as the keyboardist for the progressive rock bands Yes, from 1974 to 1976, and The Moody Blues from 1978 to 1990". This does not imply that Moraz has been in YES for a long time, nor that he was the band's main keyboard player. The statement only implies that Moraz owes his popularity largely to being a YES (and Moody Blues) member.

Compare that to e.g. Mick Taylor, who certainly is "best known as the guitar player for the R&B band Rolling Stones, from 1969 to 1974". That is only 10% of the Rolling Stones' existence, and everyone knows that Keith Richards and Ron Wood are band's main guitarists.Mcouzijn (talk) 08:00, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The 1991 interview in Keyboard is not just a good source on his position within Yes and the Moodies, and how he viewed those bands, it's also very entertaining and illuminating on many levels, especially about his approach to music, live playing, studio work and improvisation. Rick Wakeman rejoined Yes after Patrick Moraz left the group. Wakeman played on "Going for the One," the release immediately after "Relayer."

Vangelis was a candidate to join Yes, but was unable to get a work permit in the UK. I recall various articles in Melody Maker discussing the possibility of Vangelis joining the band.

Unclear sentence[edit]

The following sentence is unclear as to which band it is referring as both Yes and Refugee are mentioned before it: "Although Vangelis was the first candidate to join the band, he was finally discarded in favour of Moraz, because of legal issues related to work permits in the United Kingdom."

Lausanne Conservatory and Clara Haskil[edit]

I wonder when Moraz studied at the Lausanne Conservatory. The present text mentions that he broke four fingers at the age of 13, and the next sentence mentions him studying at the Lausanne Conservatory with Clara Haskil, implying that this took place after his accident. Moraz being born in 1948, the accident would have been in 1961. But Clara Haskil died in 1960, and there is no mention in her WP article of her teaching at the Lausanne Conservatory, although she did live in Switzerland for a long time. Did Moraz study at the Conservatory before he was 12 years old, in 1960? When was he in high school? When did he study with Nadia Boulanger? Chronology was a problem when I developed this article! Not many details regarding exact dates on events were given, so I tried to order them as best as I can. Maybe a researcher who uses the Wikipedia article to conduct a new interview with him will allow some of the events to be dated better. Feel free to re-arrange if you find anything out, @Hansung02:! I didn't check on any additional information on Clara Haskil and the Lausanne Conservatory, but I just checked the Nadia Boulanger article and the list of students of her and there is no mention of Moraz studying with her. It is not impossible, Boulanger was back in Paris from 1946 until her death in 1979 and she continued teaching during that entire period. Moraz being born in 1948, the teaching would have to be somewhere after 1961 when he broke his fingers. As a teenager he toured Europe with his own jazz ensemble and maybe he was in Paris for some time, I don't know about that, so it is possible but without any sources present it remains an open question. I acn tell anyone here that there are several photographs of Moraz that are far better candidates for the main picture than the one given on the article. Instruments in infobox, consensus required[edit]

I would like to add a few instruments in the infobox but the template says that a consensus has to be reached before adding any instruments. I don't know how that works, that's why I posted the issue here. Moraz did and does play more instruments than just keyboards, that's in various interviews he gave. But how to add them?
