It isnt'. —Larry V (talk | contribs) 19:42, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The section on social problems supplies references but not to data that provides evidence for the judgments made. The section's conclusions are much too specific for the generalist data provided. (For example, they tell you about the number of homicides in a "small geographic area" but do not qualify this information with any discussion of population density or by providing comparative rates from the rest of new york city.) I know the facts are being distorted using these broad statistics because I am a resident of parkchester (check the IP if you wish). Parkchester is not on the border of the south Bronx. We are not plagued by roving street gangs. This is over dramatization at its finest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.126.47.87 (talk) 21:54, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Section deletion?[edit]

Nocomment87/24.44.220.6, can you please state as to why you feel the cited section labeled Social Problems should be deleted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiwiki718 (talkcontribs) 20:13, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay here are my reasons:

I feel the Social Problems section has as much justification to be there as any other section in this article. Parkchester is a low income neighborhood on the fringe of the socioeconomic South Bronx. Although the neighborhood has a lower poverty rate in comparison, poverty is still significant in the area. Between 30-40% of the population lives in poverty according to the US census in the tracts that make up Parkchester. Significant by any standard. Even the Parkchester apartment complex has a poverty rate of about 20%. Crime IS a problem in Parkchester. The area does deal with street gangs, robberies, domestic violence, and violent dispute related assaults. In 2005 this very small geographical area had 3 homicides, 4 homicides in 2004, and 1 homicide in 2003. This shows consistency. Violent crime rates are higher then the national and city average and that is backed by statistics provided by the 43rd Precinct. Other social problems are high rates of incarceration due to aggressive policing, teen pregnancy, high dropout rates, language isolated families, and homelessness. The general area is notorious for drug activity. Anyone who knows the neighborhood will agree.

Then why not apply a similar section to Co-op City? Co-op is, if not worse than Parkchester. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nocomment87 (talkcontribs) 02:42, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you feel that way then add to Co-op City. I would add something similar but I did not have the time. Do not remove factual data becuase you don't like it. Wikiwiki718 (talkcontribs) 19:52, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With the exception of incarceration, all these references fail. The dropouts article does not specifically address Parkchester. The example of violent crime is an anecdote and proves nothing. The crime statistics are not illuminating in and of themselves: the fact that crime occurs proves neither that it is a serious problem in the daily lives of resident nor that it is 'high' (that would require comparision). Many of the other statements in the section are unreferenced or inappropriately referenced. I cannot help but notice that this user had added virtually identical paragraphs to articles for many other South Bronx neighbourhoods. Make of that what you will.86.0.203.120 (talk) 16:52, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Citation for low income?[edit]

Isn't it obvious from the demographic details the neighborhood is low income. It is neutral becuase it is factual. How is low income negative? It's just a fact and a good quick description of the areas economic makeup. You wouldn't add middle income to a poor community. See for yourself. Census tracts are 218, 216.01, 216.02, 210, 212, 208, 206.02.

Parkchester Apartments[edit]

Parkchester Apartments are making great efforts to sell their apartments. Hence are removing any negative comments that reflect on the area!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.73.21.68 (talk) 02:36, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Parkchester[edit]

Parkchester is one of the most violent places I've ever lived. Most of the crimes go unreported. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saltheshoe (talkcontribs) 06:49, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
