Location[edit]

These people lived on the Aous river below Vovousa. Hammond in The Ethne in Epirus in and ancient Macedonia writes: In classical times the habitat of the Parauei was on the western flank of the Pindus range in the area reaching Vovousa on the Aous. They were then between the Molossi and the Orestae [..] We can thus understand the epithet "migratory" as applied to the Perrhaebi; for in the winter they went presumably from western Pindus to the Perrhaebi who were settled in north-east Thessaly near the coast But in both maps, which have been peristently put forward on wikipedia by some editors, they appear about 150-200km to the north, near modern Ballaban. I suspect that this article and Perrhaebi have been written mostly with access to snippet search of GBooks. I have full access to JSTOR (but never used it before) because its bibliography mostly doesn't include my field of study. Today, I started verifying some of the Hammond citations (almost all were published in jstor-affiliated journals) in wikipedia and they're either out-of-context or just wrong to the point that I'm 100% sure that whoever wrote that specific article, doesn't have access to the paper h/she has cited except for maybe a snippet on Gbooks. Should I maybe start a merge discussion for these two articles (Parauaea and Perrhaebi)? It would be useful to provide some concrete evidence of those 'out of context' of 'just wrong' assumption.Alexikoua (talk) 08:05, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have reverted the recent changes. I'll need to check the sources myself too though. Alcaios (talk) 09:35, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I can't see a valid reason for a merge; one article is for the tribe and the other for the region.Alexikoua (talk) 14:45, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
