Remove "Tamil" in the introduction's "Today, they are the dominant Tamil community of southern Tamil Nadu and have developed a reputation for being assertive about their rights." Pallar, which is a sub-caste of Devendra Kula Vellalar is not a Dalit community. As a matter of fact, this community has been staging struggle to change such perception and reclaim their rightful status in the society which was wrongfully changed in the past. Also, "Dalit," which is associated with the Varna system cannot be applied to Tamil communities as Varna system was never exercised in Southern India. There was no equivalent of Dalits in the Tamil community, as the community never exercised a vertical classification system, but a horizontal one, which is present in Tolkappiyam (an ancient Tamil text), which also mentions the term "Vellalar." The Pallar community considers this unjust and a transgression to use the term "Dalit" to refer to them. Hence, it is a kind request to remove the word "Dalit" as mentioned initially. 146.196.34.230 (talk) 22:39, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 16 May 2024[edit]

PallarDevendrakula Velalar – Parliament Passes Bill To Classify 7 Scheduled Caste Groups Of Tamil Nadu As 'Devendrakula Velalars', having a page as pallar to refer as devendrakula Velalar is not right. It’s better to move this page as Devendrakula Velalar as it comprises 7 subcastes. The Indian Government parliament ammendment has been given for viewing where pallar and others 6 subcastes don’t exist in the government records. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Page I want to move it to is currently a redirect. worldgiant (talk) 04:39, 15 May 2024 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). • Comment: Please keep in mind that it doesn't matter what the Indian Parliament says. Wikipedia article titles are decided based on the common name of the subject(s) in reliable sources. Also, the last two sentences of your proposal are unclear, could you please clarify in simpler language? Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI (talk to me!/my edits) 21:20, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This from the social justice department of India, where it clearly shows that {Devendrakulathan,
Kadaiyan,(excluding in the coastal areas of Tirunelveli,
    Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Thanjavur,
    Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts), Kalladi,
Kudumban, Pallan, Pannadi, Vathiriyan] are all subcastes of Devendrakula Velalar. The 7 subcastes have been omitted from the government record. This article should be renamed as devendrakula velalar, where it can mention about all the 7 subcastes in the article then.
But now it seems to be like pallar is representing all the other subcastes where it’s incorrect.
