You need to read the article! The term timbales has been used for two different types of drum:
1. Kettle drums as used by Spanish military and Orquesta típica bands in Cuba.
2. Paila criollas, as described in the article, used by Charangas.
The term and article paila criolla is absolutely necessary for disambiguation. The uses of timbales and paila criolla are supported by the references I have given, and because it is supported by reliable references the article should not be changed or merged. The importance of the distinction can be seen in Early Cuban bands, where both típicas and charangas are discussed. To summarise: timbales and paila criolla are NOT synonyms.
