No Japanese references, please[edit]

"Oxydol" オキシドール (okishidōru) is the Japanese word for ~3% hydrogen peroxide solution. Any reference from a Japanese video game, manga, movie, book, etc. is almost certainly a reference to hydrogen peroxide and not this detergent. Bueller 007 (talk) 04:55, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great note. Something similar/related, is the fact that hydrogen peroxide is actually a common ingredient in most "oxygen cleaners" -whether powder, or liquid :) So I'm guessing that is how Oxydol got it's name. If in fact it really contains hydrogen peroxide (which I'm thinking it does....since it boasts stain fighting, yet nothing regarding "chlorine bleach" on their site). --72.188.76.225 (talk) 23:46, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An Oxydol anecdote[edit]

In the mid-1960's Oxydol instituted an ad campaign trumpeting "New Oxydol with green crystals containing bleach". The formerly all-white particles suddenly had a small number of green particles. The consumer naturally assumed they were the new additive with bleach.

Shortly thereafter I happened to meet a Procter & Gramble soap engineer. He confided that it all was a marketing ploy. Oxydol always had contained enough bleaching substance to justify the advertizing claim, and they merely started coloring 5 percent of it with a harmless green dye.
