Uastyrdzhi isn't "identified with St. George". The name is literally just the Ossetian for "St. George". dab (𒁳) 18:53, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Orthodox Church would probably disagree with you there. He isn't really the exact equivalent of Saint George. He definitely has strong pagan elements. --Folantin 19:44, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

we should widen the scope to Caucasian mythology / Mythology of the Caucasus / Mythology of the North Caucasus to include Circassian, Abkhaz, Abazin Karachay-Balkar and Chechen-Ingush folklore. dab (𒁳) 19:14, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hmmm, the Caucasus is a very complicated area with many different peoples, languages and traditions. It's certainly true that the Nart sagas (the most important folklore) are shared by many of the peoples of the North Caucasus, but the individual Narts can have very different meanings in each one. BTW Our Nart article is pretty sketchy. I'm not sure we can go conflating what's left of the pagan religions so easily. The Ossetians are the only Indo-European people among them, for instance. In other words, proceed with extreme caution. This is a potentially large and tangled topic. --Folantin 19:44, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Continuing that thought: Would it be all right if you didn't use "Persian" when you mean (Greater) Iranian? :) eg There is no such thing as a "Persian Yazata."
Of course, when greater precision than "Iranian" is preferable, then please with the right one. :)

Red links[edit]

Could you reconsider removing all the red links from the gods? Per WP:REDLINK, red links are encouraged because they lead to more articles being created (as I just did with one of them, Barastir).  Sandstein  08:22, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I removed them because it's highly unlikely most of these gods deserve their own articles. They would never be much more than stubs. Suggest merging Barastir here. --Folantin (talk) 08:29, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On the correctness of terminology[edit]

Ossetian traditional religion is monotheistic. That means that using term "god" in plural form

(if we use the word in traditional meaning)when describing this religion system is incorrect.
The analogy:If we described christianic saints, angel and archangel like "gods" - that would be an obvious bullshit. Here we have the same thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chreba (talkcontribs) 04:05, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
