Recoil mechanics[edit]

That the recoil should be absorbed by the upper part of the turret (and not by a recoil motion relative to the turret) appears highly doubtful to me - after all, the examples shown have all crew stations in the upper part, riding on a recoiling cannon would not be a pleasant experience. The image of the Sk-105 Kürassier shows the rear part of the barrel encased in a larger tube, the end of which is connected to barrel by a sort of tarpaulin. I suspect the barrel would recoil relative to this larger tube. A source for the recoiling turret would be really helpful. Using rigid mounting of the barrel in the upper turret would be impractical, as a momentary load on the barrel mounts would be enormous and the whole upper turret including electronics, optics, autoloading mechanism and crew would be thrown back and forth. Videos of the AMX tanks firing clearly indicate barrel movement relatively to upper turret. So I removed that absurd sentences on barrel being rigidly mounted. Section about the Swedish oscillating turrets[edit]

Shouldn't there be a section about the oscillating turrets of the Swedish EMIL and Kranvagn heavy tank project? These turrets had frontal shields giving them top protection for their time, compared to the AMX-50 which had below average turret protection for a heavy tank and even some medium tanks due to its oscillating turret. Also the Swedish turret design allowed more gun depression, -12 to -14 depending on turret, which is considerable more compared to the french and american oscillating turrets of the time which had between -6 and -9.--Blockhaj (talk) 08:22, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that there is very little reliable information on Swedish turrets available. There are some sketches and concept drawings, but it seems that none of them have being implemented and tested? At least the hull of KRV tank was tested with a weight mock of a turret, a large cylindrical chunk of steel. So the subject of Swedish oscillating turrets section would be completely hypothetical. Howitzers[edit]

This page only focuses on oscillating turrets on tanks and IFV but completely misses that many self propelled howitzers also use an oscillating turret.
