Synonyms[edit]

For future reference, according to this website the following binomials should not be listed as species:

  • O. tenimberensis Niepelt, 1934 (subspecies of O. astrophela)
  • O. banksi (synonym of O. helena)
  • O. intermedia (synonym of O. helena)
  • O. pluto (synonym of O. helena)
  • O. simplex (synonym of O. astrophela)
  • O. subcostimacula (synonym of O. helena)
  • O. varicolor (synonym of O. astrophela)

That's ok. Also, I've found that the species list on this article is incomplete - the CSIRO website only shows Australian species, but there seems to be other Indonesian/PNG species. It is really quite complicated with many different names (probably some are synonyms), and another genus, Neodiphthera, that includes some Opodiphthera species... it's too difficult for me to work out without a conclusive resource on the genus.
