Move[edit]

This page should be at Opel Rekord E. "Series" is an unnecessary word, not used in Opel nomenclature. See here and also the commons and the German entry.  Mr.choppers | ✎  17:29, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think I found the word "Series" included in one or two contemporary motor magazine articles in the English language press. I have never seen an equivalent in German language sources, as far as I can remember. The originating concern was more with the Rekord D than with the Rekord E, that people would see Rekord D and think it simply meant a Rekord with a diesel engine. For a time Opel called the Rekord D the Rekord II to avoid that issue. That was even less logical for what is generally seen as the fourth car in the line. Then they changed their mind and the car became the Rekord D in public (as, presumably, it always had been within the company). A few of the Rekord Ds did come with a diesel engine, of course, but most didn't. With the Rekord E I suppose the uninitiated might think that E stands for "Einspritzung" as on the Volkswagen 411 E, the Mercedes Benz 230 E etc. Some Rekord Es did come with Direkteinspritzung" of course, but most didn't. That's why I included the word series in the title, and then added a redirect page for the benefit of those not agreeing. Frankly, I don't think it's desperately important, but feel free to change it if you prefer another version (but do try and ensure consistent treatment for all five Rekord generations involved). I'm reasonably sure that these days the Volkswagen 411 E is almost universally forgotten and the M-B 280E is presumably little remembered by most.
