Merge Oban Single Malt with Oban Distillery??? Should the Oban Single Malt info be merged with this article. Or edit the Single malt article to deal more specifically with the Single Malt Scotch. (Less on the distillery). --Ricecloudnine 00:02, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I feel there is not enough information here at present to justify two separate articles, so I would support a merge, with a redirect at Oban Single Malt. If someone wants to write more about the whisky sometime in the future, they can easily change the redirect.
There has been a discussion at Talk:Lagavulin Single Malt about the naming of articles in Category:Scottish Malt Whisky. Wider contribution to this discussion would be very welcome. CarolGray 09:26, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merged[edit]

Merged as requested. SilkTork 22:00, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone clarify this?[edit]

The distillery was built in 1794 by the brothers John and Hugh Stevenson and operated by him until 1866 when it was bought by Peter Curnstie

Does "him" above refer to one of the brothers, did they (or one of them) really operate the distillery for 72 years after they built it??? Finnrind 22:07, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

caramel coloring in Oban single malt?[edit]

I recently visited Oban distillery and was told that the distillery (as one of only few in Scotland) don't use caramel coloring for their whisky. Later, back in Germany I went to a spirit shop and bought a bottle of oban 14 yo (standard edition). On this bottle I found a lable reading "enthält Zuckerkulör" (contains caramel coloring) and asked if this information was true because I was told otherwise by the distillery. The answer in the shop wasn't satisfying, so I wonder if someone could make a research about this. Would be a nice info, if on the Oban page, IMO. Dubious claim[edit]

"The town of Oban in Argyll sprung up around the distillery after it was built." I have tagged that as needing a source, and it looks rather implausible. The port of Oban is in a strategic location where the Firth of Lorn meets the Sound of Mull and it is unlikely that the distillery was there before the port or the settlement. Sources please. I think this has been removed, and I agree it seems unlikely, but here is a source: [1] Kendall-K1 (talk) 18:37, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
