Area name[edit]

Is there any source for the origin of the name? Was the area on the Isle of Dogs once part of the same holding/authority as Greenwich proper (as with North Woolwich), or did the name only spring up with a ferry/foot tunnel connection? Or even was it the railway trying to attract custom despite the station being somewhat distance ("doing a Ryanair", as we might say today)? Timrollpickering 07:31, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
