No Use For A Name[edit]

You are incorrect. The band themselves are inconsistent with capitalization. The official website and most of the album titles spell it in all caps (NO USE FOR A NAME), thus giving no indication of how they would capitalize it in a sentence. On the official Myspace and the cover of Live in a Dive it is "No Use For A Name." On the covers of both More Betterness and Hard Rock Bottom it is "No Use for a name." So clearly there is no consistent source on how the band themselves choose to capitalize it. In any case, the way they choose to capitalize it doesn't matter for the article title. An article title, and the body of the article iteself, should follow both normal English rules of capitalization as well as Wikipedia's Manual of Style on capitalizing. In particular look at "mixed or non-capitalization," which says "If the situation is ambiguous, capitalize normally." In both titles and proper names, prepositions ("for") and articles ("a") are not capitalized. If you search for "no use for a name" on Google, you will find that their artist summary page correctly capitalizes the name as "No Use for a Name" (see here).
This article was recently moved from the correct capitalization "No Use for a Name" to the incorrect "No Use For A Name" by R:128.40.76.3. I moved it back and was reverted by the same user. If no one can provide a strong argument for the current capitalization (capital "f" and "a"), I plan to move it back at the end of the day. --IllaZilla 19:40, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No objections were raised, so I moved it back. It now matches the capitalization used in all the album articles that link to it (which I didn't write, so obviously I'm not the only one that believes the correct capitalization is "No Use for a Name"). I also moved the talk page back to the correct article title after I discovered there were multiple redirects happening. I think this should settle the issue, but if you disagree please raise an objection here before moving the article again. --IllaZilla 07:23, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dave Nassie[edit]

I doubt it. The NOFX song is about alcoholism & drugs ("Better to be a hepper than a healthy 12 stepper", references to Hunter S. Thompson, Ernest Hemingway, & Charles Bukowski, etc.). Plus Coaster was recorded Nov. '08 – Feb. '09, while Nassie's departure wasn't reported until June. --IllaZilla (talk) 02:01, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tony Sly join date[edit]

This article (as does the Tony Sly article) states that he did not join No Use for a Name until 1989. However, in the liner notes to the Maximumrocknroll compilation Turn It Around! (which came out in October 1987), it credits Tony Sly with guitar. So can anyone clear up this contradicting information? --BLAguyMONKEY! (talk) 06:20, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In the liner notes of All the Best Songs, original guitarist Chris Dodge writes of the band forming in 1987 and the revolving door of early members, saying "After the band meandered for a year or so, Doug & John quit. I jumped ship soon after as well. Then this guy with a pork pie hat from the band Anxiety, Tony Sly, joined on guitar." Here's a scan from the original 1987 release: http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/1258/nouseforaname.jpg The band credits are to the left (I'm telling you because it kind of blends in with the background). And I don't know if Chris Dodge is wrong or something, but Chris was performing with Stikky by '87 (he's credited for playing with Stikky on Turn It Around! as well). Since Turn It Around! came out in Oct '87, maybe No Use for a Name formed in late '86 or something and Tony joined No Use for a Name right before recording Turn It Around! and Chris Dodge joined Stikky right before it as well. Tony Sly's Death / Past Member[edit]

I think it's wrong to list Tony Sly as a past member as he just died, he didn't leave the band. It's not even clear if the others will continue without him. --Quoterminator (talk) 22:15, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He's deceased, therefore he's a former member. If they others decide to retire the band (which one assumes they will, since he was pretty much the sole songwriter), they all become former members. --IllaZilla (talk) 00:59, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Two dates of death[edit]

In the first paragraph the article (correctly) states that Tony Sly died on July 31st, 2012. Later in the article it says August 1st, 2012. His death was announced on August 1, however his passing actually occurred the day before on July 31. [1]
