Rigg[edit]

It is stated in the article that Niobe (then Morten Jensen) was built as a schooner and later (1922) rerigged as a barque when converted to a schoolship. In the photo from 1930 she doesn't seem to have a barque rig though: look at the mainsail, which seems to be a gaff sail. Somewhere on a German page I saw her described as a "jackass-barque", which I think is correct. I won't change it now, as I don't know whether she was rerigged ones more inbetween. --LPfi (talk) 11:18, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Albatross"[edit]

I removed these sentences:

In 1961, in a similar incident, the sailing school ship Albatross sank, killing 6. The 1996 film 
White Squall was based on this sinking.

The similarities are tenous and do not amount to making worthwhile noting here.

There are plenty accidents of ships keeling over in a squall and sinking - the most famous one is the Vasa incident, but even that would make no sense to put in this form there, I would suggest if a connection must be made to create a category of squall sunk ships and link teh articlesin this way.
the importance of this accident is that it wiped out a huge proportion of the German naval officer trainees, resulting in a recritment drive among merchant navy me - see Guenther Prien article. the Albatross incident is irrelevant in terms of numerical and recruiting impact on the US Navy.
The film is about the Albatross accident and has nothing whatsoever to do with the Niobe. even iof the Albatross incident is mentioned, this film should not be mentioned. Refdoc (talk) 07:23, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
