The references are weak

Niching is a substantial marketing topic. It ties in with market segmentation and the evolution of marketing at firms such as P&G (one of the innovators in market segmentation in the 1930s or 40s).

So its history and definition are pivotal.

This article just asserts a definition, with a weak link to the following reference to justify it - Thivierge (March 20, 2021). "Digital Niche Marketing:Definition". Digital HEC Montréal. Retrieved March 27, 2021.

The references and scholarship could be a lot stronger in this article.

But I don't have time right now to update it myself.

The concept of market niches should also be tied to biological niches, e.g.

That is what leads to the business concept of a niche as your "place" - https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/niche
