merge[edit]

@Peter coxhead can you merge this page with Cochemiea per POWO Cs california (talk) 09:32, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Cs california: I added a bit to the Cochemiea page – to say that in the 2021 study Neolloydia was considered part of the "mammilloid clade", and that Neolloydia conoidea was moved to Cochemiea.
I don't think there's now anything in the Neolloydia article that really belongs at Cochemiea, because most of the former Neolloydia species are now in other genera. So there are two possibilities:
  • simply redirect the page to Cochemiea.
  • treat Neolloydia as a formerly recognized genus, rewriting the article to say this and listing the current names of some previous Neolloydia species, particularly the two accepted in Anderson (2001), The Cactus Family, N. conoidea and N. matehualensis.
I'm inclined to the latter, given that Neolloydia has been used in reliable older sources, but either would work. What do you think? Peter coxhead (talk) 11:29, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: I see that PoWO treats N. matehualensis as "unplaced", so this perhaps favours the first possibility. Peter coxhead (talk) 11:31, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Peter coxhead: Do what you think is the best, I don't mind merging the article, leaving it as a former genus page, or include a rewrite portion in the Cochemiea page. I think something should be done because I moved all the Mammillaria species pages and checked all the species on Cochemiea. --Cs california (talk) 03:57, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Cs california: I decided on a "historically recognized plant genus" approach. More synonyms could be added, I guess. Peter coxhead (talk) 17:37, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Great do we need a taxonbox for that? Cs california (talk) 06:20, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Cs california: it seems to be the normal practice not to have a taxobox for historically recognized plant genera. See the first paragraph of Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants/Template#Infobox. If you look through the articles in Category:Historically recognized angiosperm genera it appears that this this advice is followed. Peter coxhead (talk) 11:25, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
