Plot Summary

The plot summary section is, forgive me, ridiculous. Phrases like "gets his butt kicked" are hardly encyclopedia-worthy, and who really cares if the bullet slowdown was "shot five years before The Matrix. Could someone who knows the movie and knows to to write in Wikipedia format rewrite or at least tweak this section? Escheffel 21:24, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Altering bit about Kevin

I've changed several things in the plot summary, but thought I should mention this one.

This part is incorrect:

After the titles, there is a flashback sequence to how the murderous pair met up. Mickey was a delivery man who turned up at the house where Mallory lived with her abusive father (Rodney Dangerfield), her mother, and Kevin, who lives the role of her younger brother, but is actually her child with her father.

When Mallory's mother complains about her husbands lack of sexual appetite, he asks "How about him?" She then responds "You were drunk and you thought you were in Mallory's room, that's why we have Kevin!", indicating that Kevin is their child, but was conceived as an accident when Rodney Dangerfeild's character thought he was raping Mallory.

Kevin then exclaims "What, you mean Mallory is my mom?!" This is intended as a joke, and not as an actual indication that Kevin was born of incest.

At any rate, the age difference between Kevin and Mallory is far too small for this to be a feasible notion anyway. Rodeosmurf 03:53, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

relations to X files episode.

this ([1]) 1993 x-files episode features a couple who robs places together. Quotes: 

he: no matter what happens, whenever I look up at the stars, I know you could be looking up at the same ones.
she: the same ones baby.

he: even ugliness is beautiful, because of her.

The guy in the episode also tells how when they married he cut open their hands and put them together, and the blood dripped down to the water, so it would make them married in all the oceans in the world.

I couldn't find any relations between the writers of the episode and the movie. does anyone knows if there is any? or maybe those two are references to another, earlier source? I'd be happy to find any explanation which will show it's not a Tarantino rip off. 1ooooo3 13:07, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Film poster

Hi,

I only rephrased the lead sentence and removed the period from the caption in the infobox (since it's not a complete sentence). So could anybody explain to me why the image has disappeared? Perhaps I missed something. Since I don't know how to fix that, I'll have to apply to someone else. Sorry for having caused incovenience and thanks for the help. Tidy up

Hi all. I don't edit here much, but as this is one of my all time favouritre films, I was disappointed to find the page wasn't particularly impressive, and as such, I've done a general tidy up and added a little bit of material. I've fixed numerous grammatical errors all over the page, I've completed the deleted scenes section (which only included 5 of the 8 scenes on the DVD), and I've moved the 'Style' section from within the 'Controversies' section (where it was totally out of place) to the pointless 'Effects' section and renamed that section 'Style'. I believe the article reads much better for last edit in particular. Hope it's to everyone's approval. Bertaut (talk) 03:12, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

I added this because it is an arguable breach of copyright for a plot section to be merely a "blow-by blow" account of the movie; hence, it needed copyediting, in my opinion. The movie itself is the source for the events depicted in it, hence we do not need to replicate the movie; we need to give an encyclopedic overview of the main events in it, and the characters involved in those events. Simple example: our article on The Bible does not merely reproduce the text thereof. In this article, there is just too much plot detail; there are two ways of approaching this: synopsis, which encapsulates the plot in very basic terms, and diegesis, which is a more detailed description but which does so structurally and thematically without being a mere recitation of the events in the movie. I've seen both, but currently, I am of opinion that the plot section goes too far into detail setting out what the movie is. The movie itself fulfills that function. Recurring themes

None of the astrological aspects of this film appear to have been discussed.

The astrological sign of Scorpio [2] is considered to be a natural born killer.

Its symbol, an M with a tail, matches the first initial of the names of the two protagonists. Scorpios are considered dark, emotional and yet emotionless and represent the cycle of life and death (related to sex but not just about sex). They also tend to extremes. Revenge is a common negative personality trait.

Scorpio is the only sign of the zodiac with more than one motif. It commonly has 3, in fact - a scorpion, a snake and an eagle. Scorpions and snakes feature throughout the film but it is only at the end of the film that an eagle is shown. Eagle Scorpios are considered more evolved, which relates to the evolved protagonists by the end of the film.

In France a couple went on killing spree and police linked movie posters as having influenced the behaviour.

Missing information

This article doesn't mention anything to do with how successful the film was. The sort of financial assesment that comes with many of the other film-related articles on here seems non-existant. I think it would be nice to know, if anyone can help. 88.107.239.216 04:55, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

The Ebert quote given is extremely misleading. On the tv show Siskel and Ebert he went on to say "I guess it's *some* kind of masterpiece." PD

No mention is found on the couple of killers consumption of hallucinogenic mushrooms, ones that Mickey picks up for them in the desert (strange, can deserts really hold mushrooms at all??)

Plot Summary

The part where Mikey and Malory meet, is a TV show, It says I love Mallory right on the screen, and there is a laugh track. So the whole movie is a tv show? Under references in popular culture

Grant Morrison's The Invisibles is of absolutely no relation to this movie: King Mob is bald because Grant Morrison is bald. Grant has stated several times that King Mob is him. He even gave a long speech on this issue at a Disinformation Conference where he discussed Sigil Magick. Badlands / Starkweather / Fugate

Charles Starkweather's and Caril Ann Fugate's articles say their spree killing story was an inspiration for NBK. The movie Badlands, preceding NBK by 20 years, has this story. Seems strange that they are not mentioned at all in this article. --Nanite (talk) 19:43, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Agreed, especially since at the time the movie came out, everyone assumed it was based on Starkweather and Fugate. I remember Time magazine stated it. Back then, everybody knew the story of Starkweather and Fugate. I’ll be removing ‘satirical’ from the lede and clearing the Hollywood.com reference

the latter because the link is dead. A look at many reliable sources online including reviews on RT show that the satire elements have been disputed and divisive in opinion. The critical reception section even mentions it briefly. Hence, it wouldn’t likely qualify according to the guidelines in WP:FILMLEAD. Barely made one (talk) 23:17, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Error in synopsis

There is an error "Scagnetti orders Warden Dwight McClusky to kill the Knoxes during their transfer" is just the reverse: Warden Dwight McClusky orders Scagnetti to kill the Knoxes during their transfer (in fact, not order, but suggests, and two guards delegated by Dwight are ready to carry out the task.
