Good stub article creation drive[edit]

Hey, a few editors are going to march through the 29 NRHPs listed here to start or develop good starter articles, starting about now (5/5/2010). Each article is to include inline references to the good NRHP nomination documents, photos, maps made available by Virginia's Department of Historic Resources, whose Henrico County documents are indexed here. Please join in! Any suggestions for DYK nominations, comments, questions welcome. :) --doncram (talk) 16:54, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Updates: The Reynolds headquarters aluminum International style one was developed for DYK and received coverage on Wikipedia's front page. Thanks Acroterion! Also it turns out many of the NRHPs are covered in on-line available films from the Henrico County public television system. Links added to the Manokin Mansion one and some others, so far. --doncram (talk) 14:17, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NRHP infoboxes and VA doc references[edit]

To add a nicely filled out NRHP infobox to an article, anyone can use the nifty NRHP infobox generator made available by User:Elkman, at http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/infobox.php. It gives you a cut-and-paste-ready infobox, filled out from National Register database, as a good start which can be further edited. And it gives you a cut-and-paste-ready Talk page, too. What i do to add a VA NRHP reference in Henrico county is copy/paste the following:

<ref name="vaNRHPnom">{{cite web|author=Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission staff |title=National Register of Historic Places Registration: __ |url=http://www.dhr.virginia.gov/registers/Counties/Henrico/000-0000_NAME_19XX_Final_Nomination.pdf |date=___, 19__ |accessdate=2010-04-__ |publisher=Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission}} and [http://www.dhr.virginia.gov/registers/Counties/Henrico/__.htm ''Accompanying photo at Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission, from 19__''] and [http://__.pdf ''Accompanying map'']</ref>
and then I try to fill it out accurately, including author and date from Sec. 11 of the NRHP document, as in, for example:

<ref name="vaNRHPnom">{{cite web|author=Richard C. and Jeanne E. McNeil |title=National Register of Historic Places Registration: Beth Elon |url=http://www.dhr.virginia.gov/registers/Counties/Henrico/043-5117_Beth_Elon_2003_Final_Nomination.pdf |date=September 1, 2002 |accessdate=2010-05-05 |publisher=Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission}} and [http://www.dhr.virginia.gov/registers/Counties/Henrico/BethElon_photographs.htm ''Accompanying photo at Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission, undated'']</ref>

which shows as:[1]

  1. ^ Richard C. and Jeanne E. McNeil (September 1, 2002). "National Register of Historic Places Registration: Beth Elon" (PDF). Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission. Retrieved 2010-05-05. and Accompanying photo at Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission, undated

That works okay i think, but any improvements on this approach would be appreciated, too. Hope this helps others! --doncram (talk) 19:28, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately the NRHP documents currently available for Henrico County cover only 23 of the 29 Henrico County listings. The missing ones include for Druin-Horner House and for Edge Hill. Some missing are relatively recent listings; another one or two are archeological sites whose locations are not disclosed. --doncram (talk) 00:52, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
