Club association or varsity association?[edit]

According to the article, it consists of former NCAA schools in wrestling as well as aspiring NCAA schools in wrestling. So, since it operates similarly to NCAA, just with a different name, organization, and competition program, does it count as a club association or a varsity association, or perhaps a hybrid of both?Epitome of Creativity (talk) 09:35, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It’s a hybrid and differs from place to place, organization to organization.
For the schools that already have a varsity wrestling team, the NCWA automatically classifies them as a club (and currently in their Division II). Those NCWA teams will always be labeled a club.
For the teams funded by their school’s athletic department, they are varsity status.
For the teams who have to seek funds outside of athletics (ex: student government), this has had different people and entities believe different things. “Varsity” means the principal team representing a school - so by default they would be the school’s varsity team since there is no other team representing the school. With that said, a number of people don’t understand the definition or refuse to classify teams as “varsity” because they’re not directly funded by athletics.
