February 2013 deletions and April PROD[edit]

  1. During February 2013 User:Natalierosecowan deleted vast sections and disrupted the article before being reverted and subsequently blocked.
  2. On 2 April this article was PRODed by an anonymous IP, User:89.240.30.134, with the following concern "reason being this is biography is not true to me as a person anymore.I would like to request to have this deleted please. It is making it difficult for me to pursue my career further and is holding me back. this Biography is also Biased and was not written by me. I am no longer existing as this brand and would like it removed as it is promoting a label and brand I no longer wish to be associate with. It is damaging to my art and my career". (See here). It was dePRODed by User:Lankiveil with the edit summary "removing Prod, while I appreciate the reasoning behind it, this is an artist with a top 10 hit and plenty of other media coverage".

Both of these incidents may be inter-related. According to APRA, Gauci's full name is Natalie Rose R Gauci (see here). Gauci married Hamish Cowan in 2009 (here). The first user is Natalierosecowan. The second user implies she is Gauci or speaking on her behalf.

I agree with the reverting of the February edits and subsequent blocking of that user, I also agree with Lankiveil's dePRODing and the reason given. However, if the article does have inaccuracies regarding the artist's record label or brand then these should be corrected. Likewise any biases should be removed. I intend to edit this article with a view to improve its tone, expression and accuracy. Other interested editors are welcome to add constructive edits.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 16:21, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with User:Shaidar cuebiyar; in particular we need something more credible than an IP claiming to be Gauci before even considering deleting it on that basis. Although, I think that she's notable enough that any attempt to whitewash her history is unlikely to be successful in the long term. Lankiveil (speak to me) 11:50, 3 April 2013 (UTC).[reply]

I've had a go at updating the article, providing her more recent work. I'm certain to have made some errors and would appreciate a second pair of eyes having a look, if you have the time.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:52, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It looks pretty good to me! There doesn't appear to be anything contentious in the article and there are good sources, although I must admit I'm not at all familiar with Gauci's work so you need to take that with a grain of salt. Note that I have semiprotected the article for a week due to the constant blanking. Lankiveil (speak to me) 11:32, 9 April 2013 (UTC).[reply]

More April 2013 blanking[edit]

According to article history, I see more vandalism with sections and even the whole page being blanked without any explanation or discussion. Thankfully these have been reverted and the content is now back to what it was on 5 April. I commend User:ClueBot NG and User:Duchnish for their vigilance.

If any reasonable editor has a problem with the article's content, could they air their issues here so that a consensus may be reached.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:14, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The subject of this article is notable and reliable sources have been supplied to support information herein. Carefully read Wikipedia:Deletion policy to determine whether deletion is the only appropriate response rather than constructively editing of the article to better reflect a Neutral point of view. I have recently edited this article and have attempted to add reliable sources to support information that is within the article. I also attempted to update the content to provide more information on the subject's career outside the early focus on her winning a national reality/talent competition. A similar note will be placed on this user's talkpage.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 10:55, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Shri207, what exactly are you objecting to? wikipedia is an encyclopedia and as such reports what is in reliable sources. Is there anything in this article that is untrue or the sourcing is incorrect?Coffeepusher (talk) 13:59, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The "Early life" section seems overly detailed: names of family, birthdates, their origin, restaurant, even if it´s reliably sourced. She´s a musician, so presumably that´s what´s interesting. I suggest cutting the beggining of that section to "Natalie Gauci was born on 26 November 1981 and grew up in Melbourne.[1][2] She has two siblings.[3] In yyyy, she started studying music at the Victorian College of the Arts.[5]" Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:53, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree with this particular point. 'Early life' should provide a fuller description of the family background of the notable person. Your suggestion has a bare description of this part of her life: probably not enough for a separate subsection. I believe my version makes the person more than just a musician known for only one facet of her wider life. This is also the reason I supplied more up-to-date information on her career post-competition.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:08, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for answering. On second thought, her parents origins probably matter, so lets leave that in. I still feel the schools before musicschool are not interesting for this article, but reasonable people may disagree. Names and birthyears of her non-notable family should go, as hinted in WP:BLPNAME. "The names of any immediate, ex, or significant family members or any significant relationship of the subject of a BLP may be part of an article, if reliably sourced, subject to editorial discretion that such information is relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject." The source seems ok, but it´s not relevant to a complete understanding of the subject. So I suggest this change: "Natalie Gauci was born on 26 November 1981 and grew up in Melbourne.[1][2] Her father was born in Marsa, Malta and her mother is Italian.[3] Gauci is the eldest child with two siblings.[3]" And you are totally right to include post-competition info, that was some time ago. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:33, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I can go with your second version, go ahead make this change.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 08:26, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So edited. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:15, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Shri207/Natalie Gauci: I´m sorry, but you are now probably to famous for Wikipedia not to have an article about you. As it was written in invisible text in the "Australian Idol" contract: "People on the internet will now feel they have a right to write about you". And well, we do feel that. Whitin the rules and guidelines of Wikipedia though, so it´s not all bad. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:06, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Note at WP:BLPN[edit]

Just as a headsup, I have noted this case at Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Natalie_Gauci, and there is some discussion occurring there on this subject as well. Lankiveil (speak to me) 07:25, 13 April 2013 (UTC).[reply]

January to March 2016 edits[edit]

On 28 January an anonymous IP made the following disruptive edits to this article: 1 and 2. Although not picked up at that time, some of the introduced material was removed by @Gråbergs Gråa Sång: on 1 March in a series of three edits. However the material deleted in late January had not been returned.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 21:56, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I thank Gråbergs Gråa Sång for the March edits. I intend to return most of the earlier deleted material and the removed sources. I may also further tone down any additional puffery and irrelevancies introduced in January.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:27, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me, and I see you got the drug-stuff out. Thanks for looking at this! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:41, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nellie Bell as an alias?[edit]

The article has claimed that Gauci performed as Nellie Bell for two or three years (ca. 2013 to ca. 2015) while predominantly living in the UK. I would like a reliable source for this, I've found the following:

  1. "Interview: Natalie Gauci" T'hud. 28 October 2015 – no longer using Nellie Bell
  2. "Nellie Bell Showcase", Aus & NZ Festival Program 2015 p17. Performed as Nellie Bell in May 2015.
  3. "Westfield Presents: Nellie Bell". Diary of a Modern Socialite by Docile 15 July 2015.
  4. APRA Works Search. User will have to provide search parameters. For Performer search alternatively for Natalie Gauci and for Nellie Bell. At Enter a title search for Only the Lonely, the track is written by Nellie Bell and performed by Bell or by Natalie Gauci.

Are any (or a combination) of these sufficient to support the claim of Nellie Bell as an alias?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:32, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think we can use 1 & 2 to say something like "She has performed under the name Nellie Bell". 1 is vague (I think) on if she definitely stopped, so we should be too (though it´s clear she used it in 2015). And we could redirect Nellie Bell to this article. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:21, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, is her name really "Natalie Rose R"? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:54, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but the R could be an initial: both ASCAP and APRA give these as her given names. Her attributions at APRA have been changed to Nellie Bell. I don't know if she had changed it by deed poll or not but I've read that somewhere: I'd need a better ref (than my dodgy memory) for that.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:41, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Here´s a recent (march 2016) interview that also confirms that she used Nellie Bell (it says stagename), and possibly some of the drugstuff. I don´t think it´s anything we need to put in the article at this point.[1] Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:07, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
