Superficial discussion of the conspiracy angle[edit]

Surely there must be quite a few killings, the investigations of which having been derailed, where the finding was multiple gunshot suicide? Some of these eventually end up getting exposed. I'd like to see examples of this having occurred in this article. __meco 16:49, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't find any such examples in my research into this article, and I suspect there aren't any. The police tend to assume that a death by gunshot is a homicide, and it is only after ruling that out that they will shift to a suicide theory. This is especially the case for mulitple gunshot suicides, which are often recognized as such only once forensic medical examiners get involved. Furthermore, the police like to investigate homicides - cracking a murder case gets police promoted. And murder cases are a lot more interesting than most police work. That logic presupposes there is no obstruction of normal police operations (or proclivities). Or, when has a police investigation ever been blocked? It really does seem like conspiracies of this kind would be unlikely after I've thought about this for a couple of days. I was looking into the death of Gary Webb who actually gave pretty decent grounds to people with significant power to get rid of him and he rather suspiciously died in from 2 bullets to the head. But after a day of thinking on it, I realised that any conspirator would be, well, pretty clumsy, to fire twice given the additional skepticism it would create in the minds of the police. I know this is just conjecture, but in case you're here for the same reason, maybe I'll help you ease your curiosity. That said, this article maybe doesn't cover the issue as broadly as it could. For example, as the user above pointed out; perhaps there could be a link to an article on disguising murder as suicide as well as some information on failed attempts. I would assume that more people would incapacitate themselves but not kill themselves with firearms then manage to fire 2 shots. I know incapacitation doesn't occur that rapidly in a lot of cases but A - suicide is quite deliberate, B - shock counts. It's well known that, especially in nations where extrajudicial executions are commonplace, such killings will be officially reported by the government as "suicides".
