questions[edit]

ref 8 in the sentence: In summer 1954,[8] ten horses were taken from the Ocracoke herd as a project for Boy Scout Troop 290; and almost every age-eligible boy on the island joined the troop.[1]

  • is it a stray ref? .. Not sure how or what it's doing. — Ched :  ?  23:24, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not stray, it's there because it's a clear ref that the troop started in 1954, see note at top of refs about conflicts on the year the troop started. PumpkinSky talk 23:46, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

not the only mounted troop[edit]

The 112th field artillery in Lawrenceville, New Jersey had a Boy Scout Mounted Troop form 1938 through 1942. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobhaybob (talkcontribs) 01:50, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Earlier Mounted Troop[edit]

Evidence exists for a BSA Mounted Troop 2 on Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in the mid 1920s. The troop was assisted by a former 10th cavalry "Buffalo Soldier" trooper. An unpublished account from a former member exists along with the troop's flag. If proven by ongoin research, this would have been the oldest mounted BSA troop in the US.ASBoyes (talk) 21:06, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, keep working on that, but read WP:V and WP:RS. If a museum or something has this to prove it by a reliable, neutral, third party source, then we can proceed accordingly. But otherwise, we are bound by WP:NOR and cannot. Best wishes and good luck. Montanabw(talk) 15:48, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the two notes placed into this article as not up to wikipedia's policies noted above, but am parking here so if someone can properly verify this information, we can reconsider it. Montanabw(talk) 21:02, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

b. Fort Leavenworth, KS has information and photos of Mounted Boy Scouts, Troop 2 and 3 dating back as far as 1926. This is on file at the Fort Leavenworth Museum.

c. Fort Leavenworth Museum and US Army Arcives verified dates that Troop 2 Mounted Boy Scouts was started in 1908 by a Roy Zoeller at Fort Leavenworth, KS and has lineage to the 10th Calvary, Buffalo Soldiers, horsemen stationed at Fort Leavenworth.
