Removed

I removed "Currently, mosaics can be used as a way of censorship." I have no idea what this means, and there was no explanation given. Joyous (talk) 02:35, August 23, 2005 (UTC)

That was probably referring to pixelization. Goplat 01:04, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

I removed the piece of a mosaic of G. Bush a a hotel in Bagdad, very irrelevant seen from the arts point-of-view... politcs!

I removed BC and AD and replaced them with BCE and CE,to make the dates conform with encyclopaedic practice. Especially important when discussing Jewish mosaics. Sesesq (talk) 04:06, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Please read WP:ERA before making any more such edits. VMS Mosaic (talk) 04:46, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Etymology

I've read the term derives from the muses. I've also read that mosaic refers to Moses the prophet (mosaic law). Which is the correct one ?

Browser

Where is mosaic, the original internet browser (well the 1st one I ever used anyway!)

See Mosaic (web browser). Joyous | Talk 16:35, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Process of creating mosaics

Perhaps this page could use some information about how mosaics are made and the process involved in creating them. Matt 06:09, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Coin Mosaics

Does it make sense to add a section about modern or alternative types of mosaics? For instance, check out www.CoinMosaics.com, which is a site by two artists who employ an innovative way of using coins to create mosaics? Mwbseiso (talk) 16:44, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

I think the article should be about mosaics with some degree of importance in art history, not ephemeral innovations. Zello (talk) 17:10, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

history section

Mosaics were extremely popular visual art in the pre-Christian Rome and throughout the imperium. The first main section here is Early Christian; aren't we missing something? Arthurian Legend (talk) 00:07, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes we are. The Roman section is still missing, I would like to write it in the future, but I need more free time to do my research. Zello (talk) 02:19, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I took the liberty of adding {{expand further}} hoping that someone will write something about the Roman mosaics. I was surprised that the article has so little about this, as in my mind I associate much easier mosaics with the Roman period than with any other period. --Stegop (talk) 00:20, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

splitting and section shortening

the history section is now very lenghty that it tires the reader. I think copying the history section into a new article and shortening this section here will be a good idea.--7amada'sback:) (talk) 00:12, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

modern mosaic

I changed the image that accompanied the modern mosaic section. in an attempt to introduce a bit of visual variety in this article, which has a preponderance of classical looking mosaic work. The image that I removed had no date associated with it, but if it was modern, it was in a classical tradition and so did not begin to represent the diversity of contemporary work. I appreciate that it is difficult to represent contemporary work due to copyright restrictions, but the replacement image has a creative commons license and is from wikimedia commons. Also the image breaks away from the rather pedestrian idea that all mosaic is flat. I hope no-one objects. Thank you DavidP (talk) 11:13, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Early Christian art

There's a word missing here: "The low spandrels give space for the symbols of the four." The four what? Awien (talk) 20:16, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Jewish mosaics

"Most of its figurative features were defaced by ultra-religious Jews, reflecting the controversiality of figurative art in synagogue decoration." I wasn't able to find any source for this, not a single news story, to the contrary, these was a News Article about Palestinian vandals desecrating the site in Naaran. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shtissem (talkcontribs) 16:33, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

These links can probably be added at the bottom of the article:

Eggbeater Jesus

Here's a modern mosaic [1] by Gordon Smith of Smith Stained Glass Studios, Ft. Worth. It's on the façade of First Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. I took this picture of it, but a scan of that negative, or another free picture may be better. Alas, I don't understand this particular mosaic's notability as a work of art which might warrant its inclusion in this article or another. It certainly is a well-known landmark in Huntsville, though. -- ke4roh (talk) 03:07, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Quadratic

The pieces aren't usually "roughly cubic"; they're "roughly quadratic", correct?

Jonte93 (talk) 22:23, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Calçada Portuguesa

I added a short section (including a link to it's main article) on Calçada Portuguesa, or Portuguese Pavement, which is used throughout the Portuguese Speaking world and in other places where they portuguese have a cultural legacy. Although the style is very visible, common and culturally important to the Portuguese Speaking world, it is traced back to the mid 1800s, so I placed it under modern mosaics. Feel free to move it if you feel it fit's somewhere else better, but not having a section for it, being one of the most visible and active forms of mosaic in the world, seems like a lapse.

Added: Mosaic in oil painting

I added section about mosaic in oil painting. Please feel free to remove name or edit it, I just thought that it might be interesting that for the first time oil painting and mosaic merged. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Peterka.vlada (talkcontribs) 15:34, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Moved to talk - Further reading

Maybe a few books of exceptional quality on the general topic would be acceptable. --Ronz (talk) 16:28, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
